I'm thinking of getting one for my wife. I'd like some feedback from people who have used this device.

Is the camera really good?
How is the battery life?
Speaker quality? Is your music loud?

Any issues with the device?

All input is appreciated.

I think the camera is very good. My pictures come out quite well.

Battery is always a trick question; no one has the exact same setup and use patterns. However, I am a light to medium use case, and I can get through a day easily.

Speakers are ok. Not bad, not great....just ok.

No issues.

I love the device. I like how there is very little bloatware unlike many of the other OEMs, and security updates are consistent.

Edit....I also wanted to say, welcome to the forums.

Which Pixel are you looking to get

The camera is great! I don't know about the battery life for the XL but the regular Pixel was good enough for a day of use for me, but I'm not a heavy user. The speaker quality is decent.

golfdriver, thanks for the welcome and for your feedback. I appreciate it. I understand completely about the battery situation. personally myself i wont own a phone that doesn't have a removable battery or can't be exchanged for a bigger one but that's just me.

could I prod you a little bit more about the speakers? my dad has a droid turbo 2 that you can't hardly hear playing music whereas my lg g4 plays pretty loud. where would you place it?

also mike, I'm looking at the pixel xl. 128 gb.

I don't have the original XL but alot of the people I have come across are very happy with it.

The wife and I each have XL's..... These things are amazing.

Still as good as day one.

We did not buy a XL2, as these are still like new. And do not intend to buy a XL3.

These are as fast and smooth as the day we got them (1st day they were available). I have never had to reset or monkey with either one due to lag or other phone bull@hit.

I would get another in a heartbeat

Switched to the OG Pixel XL from a LG V20. I've always been very outspoken about wanting a swappable battery and additional (SD Card) storage. but...

I switched to project Fi and my Verizon branded V20 just isn't going to work on Fi. So I bought a couple Refurbished Pixel XL's off Amazon and I am amazed.

I loved the V20 camera for all its bells and whistles. With Gcam+, it takes excellent pictures. The pixel, though not packed with as many features like the V20 manual mode, takes excellent pictures. On par with the V20 in regular light. but somewhat lacking in low light.

Battery life on the V20 was great. I got about 16+ HRs with about 3hrs SOT before having to swap batteries. The Pixel XL will last me a full 24rs with 4hrs SOT before making me think about plugging it in. Even as a refurb with unknown history, the battery on mine (and my wife's) performs excellent.

The Pixel XL on Oreo was much quicker than the V20 on Nougat, and now that its on Android P, it feels even faster.
What version of android is the V20 on? LOL.... <grin>

Storage: Like I said earlier, I was a big proponent of expandable storage which is why I loved the V20, but the Pixel XL with 128GB storage is fantastic. Google offers free unlimited full resolution storage for the Pixel Phones on Google photos. No need to fill up the storage on my phone. I have about 30GB of downloaded music and plenty room to spare.

I think the Pixel XL is a great choice.

oh, and its running Android P wonderfully

I don't actually have a Pixel, but I'd I did the things I would love the most would be the same things I love the most about my Android One Moto X4 - the software and speedy, guaranteed updates - except even more so.

let me give you an honest answer on the speaker from someone who's last 3 phones had front facing stereo speakers. The speaker sucks and it's in a HORRIBLE place at the bottom of the phone. If you are playing a game that is landscape your hand covers the speaker. If you are playing a video, streaming video, listening to music, etc and there is any sound in the room other than your phone you will need to hold the bottom of the phone near your head to be able to hear it. My Nexus and previous HTC phones sounded WAY better and were much louder than my Pixel XL. It amazes me how many people would rather have something like this than to give up a little space on the front of the phone for stereo speakers.

I enjoy using Android 9 beta while some Samsung phones are just now getting Android 8. I like having unadorned Android. My Pixel and Pixel2 both work great but most phones do.

I like everything of my Pixel 2 xl, but the minimalism of stock Android, security and regular updates are the most appealing things for me. I also love its industrial design, I find it very original.

I agree, this irritates me as well. Of all the phones we have owned I believe the best sounding was the HTC m7. My G4 has a speaker on the back but thankfully it is pretty loud.

Thanks everyone for the replies, I'm taking all this into consideration.

It's the most fluid Android powered device I have ever used since day one! (Nov 2016) For a (almost) two year old device I'm excited to say this is my daily driver and will be until it dies..

I just picked mine up 3 days ago.. and so far, I love it.. very fast, no bloatware in the OS and very fluid..

Camera is fantastic but images can be a little noisy (grainy) at twilight.. I have noticed that sometimes if your trying to get a blurred background and trying to take a subject / object in foreground... it can sometimes get things confused... and Blur out your subject, and focus on the background... so check your images after shooting, but this is minor as its truely a great camera... In fact, I think the XL camera beats the Galaxy S8 / Xperia XZ Premium and is on Par with the G6 and even the new Xperia XZ2.

Single bottom Speaker on the XL is better than the smaller Pixel, due to the bigger body mass of the XL, however.. default ringtones are very quiet on the phone, so download or use your own... Its actually a very good speaker, especially for Podcasts.. and it has a 3.5mm jack (yay).

Voice calls are very clear and crisp.. and the ear piece can get quite loud

As of yet, Ive only had it do 2 battery cycles, so I cant comment... but it appears pretty good... standby / sleep time is awesome..

Fingerprint scanner is very fast and reliable and never had it fail yet, unlike my old XZ Premium... which hardly ever worked..

This is a great phone in 2018 and an awesome bargin.. You cant go wrong..

Enjoy it.
