So, what does it mean to not get security updates anymore? I see people saying that the phone will no longer be secured. Can someone explain what happens when the security updates stop?

When security updates stop, your phone will stop getting the latest security patches. But that doesn't mean that your phone is not secure. As long as you browse the web responsibly, your phone will still work great and you can rest a little easier. You won't have the latest security patches but you'll still have some level of protection.

Are you talking about the Play Store, or Google Play Services? Those should keep updating. You're correct in that there is at least some security benefit from those separate components being updated, but other core parts of the system still won't be updated.

Hmm, that's the first I've noticed that. Not sure if that's Play Services or the Play Store. I tapped it on my 3 XL, and lo and behold, it said I had to restart to finish the update!

EDIT: Found this article: https://www.droid-life.com/2019/10/...ogle-play-system-updates-on-your-pixel-phone/

EDIT 2: Also read this text on the official Android 10 page: "Android devices already get regular security updates. And in Android 10, you'll get them even faster and easier. With Google Play system updates, important Security and Privacy fixes can now be sent directly to your phone from Google Play, just the same way all your other apps update. So you get these fixes as soon as they are available."

Yup. Actually is a new security enhancement for Android 10. Even tough the monthly security patch has stopped, but this update still on. Btw for your info, this isn't related to the update on Play Services or Google Play
