I don't need the latest and the greatest hardware, but is this phone still a capable phone in 2015? It seems there are budget models available now that are better than the old Nexus. or is the Nexus still superior to these new "budget phones" Thanks

Depends... how much are you spending on it?

If it's the same price as a 'newer' budget phone, I'd tend toward the newer side of things. Newer phones have newer battery technologies powered by newer processors which have the newer technologies. They have newer camera sensors and newer software to take advantage of them.

Again, it depends on what you're paying, but I'd get a phone that's new rather than one that's 3ish years old.
