I have a 500gb external harddrive and been figuring out how to play my media to my hd tv. Have a ps3 but its a pain to convert the files and time consuming. Not sure what files Google tv can play so basically my question is can Google tv play media off my external hdd? Or any similar media box

Yes. I can play most file types off of my external HD on the revue. It will also hit up any DLNA compliant media servers on your network.

Thanks! So no need to reformat correct? Just plug and play.

Yep, GTV reads FAT formatted drives fine (not sure about NFTS, but default is FAT). My Revue opens all media files I use, and this is with the old software.
