    I think Nike do a good app called mapmyrun or something like that. It allows you to actuallt map out your run before hand and it tells you how far it is. then breaks down your speed per Km ect...

    I you are interested in running apps I have quite a long experience with some of them.
    • Endomondo - it was the first app I used and I still use it as a workout log book. Unfortunately, I could not set up it so it tells me my running pace reliably during interval runs.
    • Adidas MiCoach - this was the best app with free training plans that really worked (at least for me). The app itself was not very comfortable in use, but I successfully used is in the background just to let the app tell me about the workout progress and when to speed up or slow down. Unfortunately Adidas decided to migrate to some other app Runtastic (I can't see miCoach app available in Google Play any more) and the training plans are not free and there are just a few of them (for example no plans for these who want to run a marathon in less than 3h 30mins). But I must admit that from usability and reliability point of view Runtastic is much better than miCoach.
    • Pace Control - the app I wrote myself with some functions the other apps do not have, for example: you can tell the app you want to run 10k in exactly 1 hour and the app will tell you if you run too fast or too slow, or remote race - you can race against a friend who is far away, even in another city, country or continent with real-time feedback.


    Now I use Endomondo in the background and Pace Control in the foreground in the same time during my workouts. Endomondo serves as a log book, Pace Control tells me if I run with pace I wanted to run and this combo works nicely.
