Honor 8 vs Moto Z Play all photos in auto mode. I shot each one three times and chose the best one. Some of these area similar to the iPhone comparison, but everything was re shot. Top is honor 8

I have some photos with the iPhone but it isn't a complete set. I can add them to the comparison if anyone wants

I think the bottom photos look way better. Looking at the moto play but worried about camera. These are fairly decent shots. Thanks for the preview.

Agreed. Looks like the Moto Z Play shoots significantly better shots in low light settings.

Moto z wins but moto still has issues with noise that has plagued every moto phone I have had since the droid x.

I think they're both about equal. In low light, the Moto is definitely brighter and slightly sharper, however, it tends to blow out highlights and wash out areas where the light is. As a result, the Honor tends to capture more details in an image.

However, in virtually no light the Moto destroys the Honor pulling in more light to create viewable images.

I'm viewing these on mobile. Looks like the Moto Z Play is competent.

Honor 8 is probably more true to life.

If you switch to wide aperture or HDR mode, the honor performs better in low light.
I took a number of shots but didn't see any difference with hdr on or off, though I don't think that I did any low light shots with hdr. Might have to try when i get a chance.

Wow, the Moto meters all wrong with night shots. It clips (blows out) the highlights, no detail, and those can not be recovered by anything.
The H8 appears darker because it is dark when those shots are taken. It preserves detail in the highlights much better.

In my opinion, at least, it looks like the Z Play does a good job at capturing photos under low-light settings. The Honor 8 still does a pretty good job, but the Play looks like it does it better. However, that isn't to say that I don't like my low-light photos on my 8 - they still look pretty good, as do yours, OP! :)

You are right, I'm all for just opening and shooting but it's not hard to turn on HDR. I can get beautiful low light shots just by turning on HDR
