I posted this at the last update and was hoping this update would fix it. But up until 8 months ago, at the last update, if I had 12 apps open at night, they would be open in the morning. Now it only keeps 5 open after a certain period of time. I just closes any more than 5.
I noticed with this update that it even closes apps once I start using others in the morning, so only 4 open sometimes.
I just thought I would post this to see if anyone figured out why this might be and how to change it. Thank you.

I've noticed this a few months ago too. I used to be about to scroll through a lot more apps like it was a deck of cards.

It could be that HTC are trying to maintain the perfomance of the device...

I have an older M8 that used to have no problem with apps, now I find I have to manually clear the recent apps list from time to time as the phone gets noticeably sluggish if I don't.

As time goes by, app sizes get bigger and have more functionality that demands more of the cpu and ram size. The apps now today are generally bigger size wise than the ones that were around when the HTC 10 was first released, Infact the Facebook app is an easy example, it gets more bloated with each new version!

For this reason the update is probably the result of research by HTC engineers who worked out that automatically clearing and leaving 5 recent apps is a good way to maintain perfomance.
