HTC Desire Rom Help

I tried flashing a custom rom yesterday. I believe it was cyanogen mod 11 for my HTC Desire 510. I did everything right . I did an advanced wipe in twrp and wiped everything and then flashed thenrom but somehow i still ended up in a bootloop . I restored my backup so i can use it but I dont know what I did wrong ? Any help is appreciated . Was it maybe a bad rom ? Or must I do something else to my phone before flashing a custom rom like update my bootloader ?

It's not a bad ROM and no update to your bootloader is required. You have to flash the kernel (boot.img) that is in the list of downloads, or it will bootloop. I can help you with that if needed.

Yes please I could use some help. I haven't really tested any roms on an HTC yet so I don't know the process of doing things
