My stock VM HTC Desire 816 constantly fails system updates with red triangle, how do I fix this.

I recently purchased a brand new (sealed in box) Virgin Mobile HTC Desire 816 online in Amazon about two weeks ago. I keep trying to update it when new updates are available but no go. The update downloads without issues, but when installing the process reaches about 20% and then fails. It shows a red triangle exclamation mark to say it was unsuccessful.
