As I wait for 2.1 fix, can someone help me with SMS/MMS?

While I patiently wait for a patch to fix the frustrating amount of bugs my Eris has been having since 2.1...
My SMS and MMS is running painfully slow. I'm talking it takes 30 seconds to send a text, and even longer to confirm that it has been sent. Sometimes the keyboard won't appear, sometimes I'll tap the text box and it will think that I long-pressed it. I thought maybe it was the native SMS/MMS program, so I switched to Handcent and I'm experiencing the same problems.
Does anyone have any idea how to get my SMS/MMS working at a reasonable speed for the time being?

Try a factory reset, it fixed that problem for me. Though it popped up new problems that came with 2.1 :/.
