I move my apps to the phone but the card still says they're there

My new card is coming today so I moved my apps to the phone. The SD card still shows the same amount of memory. The phone does show a decrease.

Is this correct? Do I need to reformat the old card to clear space for future use? Did I do the wrong thing to remove the apps?

Just from what I've seen on my phone some apps can't be moved to the SD card. I've got two different SD card programs and they will say they've moved them but they are still on the phone when I restart.
