[Guide] - Updated 7/22: 3VO Clean Up - Remove *ALL* bloatware! V2

Updated: 7/22/2011 - I updated the script to include the removal of more bloatware. As well I coupled it with the updated root scripts. I also added Ad-Blocking host file to the root script.

Free RAM comparison
Fresh boot of a completely stock ROM: 371 Megabytes free
Fresh boot of a Cleaned stock ROM using this script: 441 Megabytes Free (save 70 megs running the script!)


Ok, I wrote a quick bat file to scrub some of the crapware from the device. It doesnt actually remove the programs, thats simply not possible yet but does remove the entries in the app draw making for an almost Custom ROM appearance ;c)

This will remove the following junk from the app drawer:

Amazo MP3
HTC Appsharing
Blockbuster
Android Debugtool
Ereader
Greenhornet
Nascar
Picasa
Spiderman
HTC Mobile Guide
Sprint TV
Sprint Wallet
Sprint Nav
Sprint Radio

The Following files are now disabled in ver 2.0
HTC Likes
Media Share
Polaris office
Qik Video
Watch
HTC Look up
HTC Transfer
Dock Mode
Car Panel

These Items will NOT reappear on a reboot of device. This is a reversable change if you choose to, see post 2.

Prerequisites:

You need to be temp rooted (Dont worry if your not, I have the root-er included in the download!!)
You need to have USB cable connected with USB Debugging on.

Step 1 - Download the attached Clean My 3VO 2.0 ZIP file and extract it to desktop (or wherever)

Step 2 - Run "Run_ME_Fr3vo_ROOT.bat" file. This will give you the temp root you need. Remember this is temp root. It will go bye-bye after reboot of device.

Step 3 - Run "Clean My 3VO 2.0.bat" file. This will clean the menu items noted above. These will not return on reboot of device.

Step 4 (Optional)- Re-run the "Run_ME_Fr3vo_ROOT.bat" after the phone reboots and it will re-root phone and apply an ad-blocking hosts file ;c)

Ok, I wrote a quick bat file to scrub some of the crapware from the device. It doesnt actually remove the programs, thats simply not possible yet but does remove the entries in the app draw making for an almost Custom ROM appearance ;c)

This will remove the following junk from the app drawer:

Amazo MP3
HTC Appsharing
Blockbuster
Android Debugtool
Ereader
Greenhornet
Nascar
Picasa
Spiderman
HTC Mobile Guide
Sprint TV
Sprint Wallet
Sprint Nav
Sprint Radio

These Items will NOT reappear on a reboot of device. This is a reversable change if you choose to, see post 2.

i'm sure in due time. someone will find a way to permanent root. then you can run a program like root explorer and remove the apks.

just be patient.

Some of the us have only enough knowledge to be dangerous. I've rooted my Moment in the past and intend to root my Evo 3D but need a few more detailed instructions than what you've given. We probably don't need a full video explanation but a few more instructions on installing the files to our phone would be helpful. Thanks.

The instructions are in the OP. You dont need to do anything else. Just install HTC USB drivers. Place phone into USB Debugging mode, connect to PC, run batch files.

This does it for you. I don't know if he included adb in this setup, but if he didn't, you would need to install that.

Yep, ADB is included. This is an all inclusive package once you have the drivers installed.

adb is somewhat a bit tricky for those not that tech savy.

any why mess with something that is only temporary.

The root is temporary, but removing the apps is permanent until a hard reset or you re-enable them.

I will try to create a write up tonight. Sorry for the delay... But basically, put phone in dev mode, plug into USB on PC. It will try to install the drivers then fail on a couple. Next go to Device manager on PC. Select the failed device and select update drivers. Point the update wizard to where the drivers are.

Temp root will allow titanium back up with some caveats. You cannot really remove anything. It will remove but will show back up on reboot. You can back up and restore apps though!

Didn't see how to reverse this in 2nd post. Saw in a later post that a hard reset would bring them back.
Q 1. Does hard reset undo this temp bloat removal?

Q 2. Does this stop these apps from running in background, so RAM is freed up or doesn't get used while these apps are temp removed.
Don't mind these apps, just wish RAM wasn't used for them when I dont even use them.

Yeah, I got lazy after posting the batch file. To reverse this you can simply modify the batch fiel with notepad or whatever your favorite editor is. Just change the word "disable" to "enable" and run the scripts again. You can even pick and choose.

This script disables the app so its no longer loading thus using no memory.
