I love the HTC Sense keyboard. Try Smartkeyboard. Its available in the market for $1.49 believe.

We had trouble with our 2 E3D's until we calibrated the keyboard, now they work great.

Settings>Lang&Key>Text Input>Cal Tool.

Just tried what you said, definitely helps.

Settings>Language & Keyboard > Touch Input Settings > Text Input -> Calibration tool. Just put that extra step in there for the touch input settings for clarification.
