3g signal disappearing or not lighting up at all !

My 3g signal is terrible. It cuts out while downloading or streaming. Does it constantly when trying to make a call, my 3g and the arrows below it will disappear all together and my call won't connect. When on the internet my 3g and the arrows below it will not light up white AT ALL. It just sits there blank and eventually turns white after I go into my mail and refresh my inbox the 3g and arrows will light up white finally. No 4g in my area of course. Does anyone know what the heck is going on here. Just rooted my phone last weekend with revolutionary but it was doing this before I rooted. Is there a way to change radios or kernel or anything to fix this?
