Um, WOW! TV Flash Adult Content In App Market

Holy ca-rap. Downloaded the free app TV Flash from the app market, and there are multiple (many) links to hardcore, triple XXX, no holds barred porn.
I'm no prude, but anyone (or any kid) with the app market can download this.

Is this a Google oops?

Thanks for the heads up! I had this downloaded already, but stopped using it because it wasn't as fast buffering wise. However it was good for watching live shows on the go where connection is fast. Now that I know that there are adult channels on it, I will have to add it to my facial recognition app lock list so my son doesn't go surfing the channels. He claims he hasn't seen anything though...yeah right.

It's not the app that is porn related, it's the links in it after you download. What parental controls are there to stop this? I have "mature" apps blocked from the app market. Nothing stopped me from downloading it. Just scrolling through the channels available found "sexy" channels.
I am not a prude. Adults can look at what they want. My concern is all the kids with android.

In all seriousness, the app itself is fine and is actually a very good one. I understand OP's concern. Knowledge is power, so it is good to be aware of this. Just as I monitor what my kids do on the computer and Facebook (a whole other post) I do keep an eye on what they are doing on their phones. I am sure they probably do things I don't approve of, as they have before and have gotten caught and their privilege of using a cell phone taken away. They know what will happen and have been warned so it is their own fault if they abuse that luxury.

Don't be one of those people who think they have any right to tell others what is and is not appropriate for their kids, then blindly guess they're a bad parent if they don't think like you.

My 10 and 15 year olds both have Android phones. However neither of them have data or WiFi connections. When they want an app they give it to me to connect, get the app, disconnect, then give them back to the kids.

That's how I avoid these issues.

My 17 year old son has an Android with full web and data access that he pays for himself. My 15 year old step daughter has one as well but like your children, she does not have full data or WiFi, only texting.

Oh, and I interpreted Vick's post to mean young kids with no supervision.

I didn't even know this because I only got down to the Fox channels. There are over 300 channels. Of course they have the disclaimer when you open the app, so I can't blame the developer for providing a pretty good wrapper for the channels...nor am I looking to blame anyone. As a parent, I'm just appreciative for the OP's warning. Do with it as you wish.

How do you prevent them from connecting to a wifi connection, say at starbucks or McD or other public locations like that?

Our kids don't go places without supervision. Their friends' parents know not to let them connect to their WiFi if they have their phone with them. Additionally I check their WiFi settings on occasion to see if they have any remembered connections (indicating they broke the rules) and if they do they lose their phone for a week (like when grandma and grandpa took them to Disney and my 15 year old tried to connect to the hotel WiFi... not only did he not have the password and couldn't connect anyway, he still lost his phone simply for attempting it).

But when they stay the night with friends I hold onto their phones 99% of the time. They have them for games, talking, texting, and music... none of which they should be doing when they are guests at their friends house. If I need to contact them I call the parents anyway (kids are surprisingly good about not taking their phone with them into the pool).

I don't believe kids should be blindly trusted, nor should technology. But as a parent I find that involving them with technology has major advantages, I just need to take the extra steps required as a parent to assure they're able to enjoy it in a safe environment, and learn that having it is a privilege, not a right, therefore can be taken away as quickly as it was given.

Fry's electronics opened a store in my area a few years ago. I went to check them out. I liked the store until I got to the dvd secton. Hmmm... family movies... horror... SciFi... porn... mysteries...
Wait, porn? No warning, nothing blocked or left to the imagination. Hardcore movies mixed right in the same aisle as G & PG movies.

BTW, I spoke to the store manager about this. His answer was it was company policy to display adult movies in this fashion. Sounds like a friend of yours.

I actually went the first time to buy an advertised PC system as a house warming gift for a friend. The rep tells me that this (name brand) system doensn't even have enough ram to run windows. Bad raps it 3 more ways, and leads me to the higher priced systems. When he went in back to get info on a question I asked, a different rep is telling another customer word for word the same pitch, about not enough ram... "let's go look at these other systems". Can you say bait and switch?
That was strike 1.
Strike 2 was the adult movies mixed with the regular movies.

Never gave them a chance for strike 3.
