evo 3d reset from lock screen

when my evo has the screen off, if I hit the power button to wake, sometimes there is a delay and I might hit it again, then the screen will flash on and then off, and if I hit the power button again , sometimes it will just make the entire phone reset, and when it reboots I get a request to send info to HTC to report and unexpected device reset.

anyone familiar with this?

I just have to be careful and patient --I am using a extra capacity battery so I have to push much harder on the power button than the stock back/battery--but I don't think thats the only reason

When you put the new battery in you may not have got the battery cover back on correctly. The power button on the cover has to line up with the hardware power button or the button wont work as advertised.
