So now that the 3D release date is all but announced, would it be safe for me to get a phone and return it for the 30 day refund? I am switching in from another carrier and the port in credit ends the 23rd so this was somthing I was planning on doing anyway is it possible yet that the release date be pushed even farther back yet?

I think you'd better ask at a Sprint store. Honestly, there are probably plenty of little fine print bullets that may not allow what you're talking about.
All we can do is guess on here.

Its still risky. I do believe that they intend to release on the 24th of June, but it is possible for unforseen circumstances to push that date back. If you want to play it safe, you could wait until as close to the 23rd as you can.

I'm in the same boat. Normally there's a $35 restocking fee but the Sprint I went to said that doesn't apply since it's a new account. I told her the dilemma with the $125 porting service credit and she pretty much suggested what I wanted to do....get a phone now to set up the account and take advantage of the $125 credit then return the phone when the 3D comes out. She couldn't give me a release date so I'm gonna wait a few weeks just to play it safe.

I feel your pain. I'm personally in the same situation. I'm going to go talk to some best buy phone specialists today. I'll report back with the results.

would switching at bestbuy still qualify you for the 125 credit?
I called a few bestbuy about the offer and they say they don't have any promotions going on for that.
So I decided to preordered mine form sprint and hopefully switch before it ends. but to be honest I
would rather go with bestbuy so I don't have to deal with rebates.

No they do not, I went in and asked the rep a few weeks ago

I honestly dont think it matters as long as you switch from a reputable retailer, the sales guy in sprint might be just saying that just to get you to sign up at store. I however do recommend getting it from sprint store over best buy. I just switched over to sprint and got the nexus from amazon for 49 bucks and my port in credit was confirmed right after I submitted it and informed me that it will appear on my bill after I have been a customer for 60 days.
As long as your number was ported in at an authorized retailer you should not have any problems.

The $125 credit is ONLY if you buy the phone/plan at a Sprint store or online...they will not give you the credit if you buy through a 3rd party retailer. The credit will apply after 60 days.

Ok, so I got another idea. Seeing as I can buy from BB and still get the switch to sprint $125 port credit. I'm thinking of going tomorrow, buying an evo4G (49.99 online) and then return it on the 24th for the 3D.

But I'm also going to get the buy back program just in case the release date isn't the 24th or is pushed back further.:)

What do you guys/gals think?

I really want to sell my iPhone 4 before this WWDC week just in case jobsy surprises us all and shows off his new iPhone.

Plus I have not been able to tether my iPad to my iPhone since I was caught by AT&T doing so without a tethering plan. -_-

Damn it. I just bought my Evo 4G at Amazon wireless for $59 over the Memorial Day holiday, but I haven't gotten it yet because the Samsung Epic I ordered for the wife is on backorder (we are both switching from iPhones, btw). We still saved money overall, though, because BB has the Epic for $99 right now, and it was free on Amazon at the time...

I didn't know for sure if I could do it, but I was hoping to be able switch to the 3D when it came out, but I'll stick with the original 4G if Sprint won't let me switch. We had to buy new phones when we did for various reasons, but I wanted to take advantage of the $125 port credit (Sprint.com does not have any restrictions on WHERE you purchase the phone, just that you port your line over before 6/23).

Oh well, if I can't get the 3D, I'll be fine with the original 4G Evo. I might wait a while before I do the GB update, though...

Question. My family currently has 3 phones (2 on Sprint each with their own plans and one on Boost Mobile). I'm going to bring all 3 under one Sprint Family Plan. Would the transition of the Boost line over to Sprint qualify for the $125 credit or would it not since they are technically operating under the same parent company? The live would technically need to be "ported" over to Sprint's network so I wonder if it would qualify?

Anyone have any experience or knowledge on this scenario? Thanks in advance!

I just went to my local Sprint store, they told me that sprint can at any time after the switch, deny you the carrier switch credit. I don't know if that is true or not, but that's what i was told. I'm on the same boat though, i want to get as much money off as i possibly can.

The rep also pointed me to the return policy (Sprint 30-day Return and Exchange Policy) and told me that even as a new customer, you probably will still pay a $35 restocking fee for exchanging the phone.

So i don't know what would be the best way to go about it.
