I went through the HTC unlock bootloader and successfully unlocked HBOOT 2.18.0001. It shows
*****UNLOCKED*****
SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-2.18.0001
MICROP-014f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
RADIO-2.15.00.12.19
Dec 21 2011,12:50:32

I am tring to continue the steps to get to HBOOT 2.10 to remove the watermark and flash ICS but now in my command prompt it hangs on finding the device. Yes its in FASTBOOT USB mode.

Please help! :(

Also note: When trying to access the market it gives an error 'Server error retry', the wifi never connects to the network and is constantly trying to obtain an IP.

Did you already flash a custom recovery?

You don't need to remove the watermark to flash a custom ROM; you just need a custom recovery (Amon_RA-based recoveries are recommended).

I have an HTC evo 4g, some of my phone specs are different than the ones you posted on
Guide to rooting phone with HBOOT 2.18.0001
Device 1: HTC Supersonic/PC36100 (EVO 4G) | Hardware Version: 0003
Baseband: 2.15.00.12.19 | PRI: 2.33_003 | PRL: 61087
Recovery: RA-supersonic-v4.3-smelkusMOD

My device just says Supersonic EVT3/PC36100 / Hardware version 0004
Baseband the same. /PRI the same./PRL 60687
Linux version 2.6.35.10-g94d0005
(htc-kernel@and18-2)gcc version 4.4.0(GCC)
Firmware 2.3.5

Will the above root work on my evo 4g ? I am new to this rooting thing, but I have jail broken an Iphone4. This is more complicated.

Please help. Thanks

Yes, you should use this guide, i.e. unlock with HTCDev.

I'll give a shot, but they don't show my phone. Am I supposed to use All other supported devices? If so I will get started on the rooting. Thank You very much for the quick response.

wally18324, a newbee to this, sorry if I ask dumb questions.

As this guide states (in the first post), you choose "All Other Supported Models."

Where are you pasting it? You should be pasting it into the Web window on the HTCDev site.

EDIT: See attached screenshot from HTCDev instructions for pasting token, Page 3, Step 10.

I got to Android>fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin
sending unlock token (0 KB) Step 12

It was sending, but nothing else. Just kept flashing the underscore. No okay, nothing.
Frustrated, so close yet so far.

What did I do wrong ? Please help Captain Throwback.

Many thanks, wish I was as knowledgeable as you, when it comes to this stuff.

0kb sounds like a bad download from your email. Are you sure it downloaded completely, and that you put it into the correct folder? Does your device still say "FASTBOOT USB"?

Hello again,

I have AOL as email, took attachment and saved in My Documents, thats the only option besides saving to the mail folder in your filing cabinet. From my documents put it in same folder as fastboot. When I tried to open it it wanted to use vlc or media player. The device says fastboot only and bootloader and it is connected to pc. I thought I did everything right. Again many thanks.

So the device does say FASTBOOT USB? Once it sends the unlock token (as long as the token is the correct size), a screen should come up on the device asking you to confirm you want to unlock and wipe all data from your device.

you shouldn't try to open the file - just put it into the same folder as the fastboot.exe that you've been working with, and where the command prompt should be open from.

Can you post some screenshots of the folder with the unlock_code.bin file, and what your device looks like in fastboot mode (if you're still having problems, that is)?

Is there a file called "recovery.img" in the C:\Android folder? The error message suggests there isn't.

Download this file: Dev-Host - recovery-ra-supersonic-4.3-smelkus-ics.img - The Ultimate Free File Hosting / File Sharing Service, and rename it "recovery.img". Place it in the C:\Android folder, and run that command again. See if that works for you.

Wait, you have two fastboots in the folder? One is a folder? You need to delete that one. That's confusing your command prompt. Also, what is cd:? you should probably delete that too. There should only be 5 files in there.
