Is it true you have to use a Gmail account with email on Android? I've been using my hotmail for years and I really don't want to switch.

You need a google account to access the Android Market. You don't need to use the gmail. It will generate a gmail for you but you don't need to use it.

IMO do yourself a favor and migrate to Gmail as primary now. they make it easy.

Just create a gmail account and have all your hotmail emails forwarded to the gmail account.

They can do that? Neat. How would I go about doing that?

Also, the major reason I'm so reluctant to switch to Gmail is because a few months ago when I tried to switch someone had already taken my username on Gmail (I have no idea why, I tried to contact them, but they don't even use the email anyway) and I don't want to use a different name. I really wanted Rudementry@gmail.com....

I'd take gmail over hotmail anyway.

And yes, forwarding is very easy.
