App updates not downloading

For quite a while now a number of installed apps scheduled for auto updating simply give me the message "Starting download..." but the updates never download and install. It is also impossible to cancel the pending download. Among the ones I really care about are Google Maps, Qik Video, Voice Search, and Gmail. There are several others that really don't concern me and I will probably just remove those apps. Have any of you had this problem, and found a solution?

I've had that problem. I normally Reboot it or turn on 4g to speed it up. Try clearing data in settings >applications
