Since I have updated from a bb curve to the EVO I asked myself why I haven't done this sooner! This is by far one of the best phones out there. I haven't had any problems with this phone what so ever. The only bad thing there was about this phone is the battery life. But that's expected with a phone that does everything.

I upgraded from a Samsung Moment. I used that phone for about 19 months and loved it. I had the opportunity for an early upgrade and a FREE Evo 4G, so I took it. Even though the platform is over a year old by now, and probably EOL, I think it was one of the best tech purchases I have made in a long time. It is fast and smooth. I have had my hands on many of the other 1GHz phones, including the Incredible, and this one takes the cake.

    Thoughts

Screen - I would just be reiterating what others have already posted. It is big and bright and I can see it when I am in the sun, unlike the AMOLED screen that my Moment had.

Speed - Holy smokes this thing is fast!! I only played with it stock for about 20 mins before I rooted it and flashed a custom ROM onto it, but it was great.

UI - Initially, I didn't like the fact that there was another UI on top of the stock Android. Coming from the Moment, that is all that I had, but Sense is a very nice UI. I think it blows away Blur, TouchWiz/iOS, and AOSP.

Battery - I see a lot of people on both sides of the fence. I haven't really seen a battery issue with the phone. It is a smartphone and if you use 100% of it capabilities, you will kill the battery very quickly. I get at least 16 hours out of a charge and that is while streaming Pandora.

Overall, this is the best smartphone I have ever owned. It it much better than the Galaxy S line, the Motorola Droid Line, and the iPhones. I will be keeping this one for at least a year or more. There is no reason for me to want to upgrade anytime soon. Unless of course the phone can clean my yard, save me money on gas, or go to work for me.

Been lurking on Android Central for awhile. I have a question. :-) I just bought the EVO this weekend. Love it so far. Upgrading from a Hero. It was kind of an impulse, because I really hadn't been planning on upgrading yet, so I hadn't really looked into phones. At the Sprint store, I was looking at the Evo 4G (even though my area probably wouldn't get 4G til the NEXT millenium) and the Nexus S. The salesman was steering me towards the Evo...said it was what he had, and gave me a few reasons why he thought it was better. Duh! I didn't realize til a day or two later when I was reading reviews that the Evo 4G is being discontinued. I'm sure that's why he was steering me towards the Evo. In the two or three days that I've had the Evo, I LOVE it! Awesome phone. But I'm worried about updates. I wonder if it will get ICS? I've still 27-28 days to return/exchange it. I can get the Nexus S for the same price....not sure about the EVO 3D. I guess I'm just looking for opinions about whether to keep it or if I should exchange it. Thanks!

Discontinued or not, the EVO 4G is a great phone and will still be better than most phones available today.

    Things to take into consideration:
    1. How much did the EVO 4G cost you? If it cost you $50 or less then you're not overinvested in your phone. If you paid $100 or more you might as well get the EVO 3D or the Motorola Photon.
    2. How often do you upgrade your phone? If you upgrade every time you become eligible then theres no harm keeping the EVO and upgrading again next time. Also if you only upgrade occasionally then thats fine too because the EVO is a great phone and will serve you well beyond your two-year service contract. And I HIGHLY doubt the EVO 4G will get Ice Cream Sandwich simply because ICS requires a dual core processor and the EVO 4G only has a single core 1ghz. (still plenty fast by all means).
    3. Do you have a Gold Premium account status? If yes then you're eligible for upgrade every twelve months. By then there will be newer devices.

Either way you cant go wrong buying either EVO or the brand new Motorola Photon (which I also have and is a GREAT phone). As for the Nexus S 4G I would not pick that phone over any of the EVO's or the Motorola Photon. I heard it has signal issues etc, plus it has a smaller screen although that may not matter to you. Its all up to you. Good luck.

So, to start this off I had a new Blackberry Bold that I realised. Started searching Craigs List for an Evo, they had them but too pricey for my budget at the time.

Well about a month later still pissing and moaning about the BB Bold, I checked Craigs List one more time, and guess what I found? A guy with a white 1 month old Evo with the extended battery and a couple of cases, wanting to trade straight across for a BB Bold in new condition. I was floored and assumed that Evo was long gone. So I called the dude up and he still had it. Seems he was a huge BB fan and his wife talked him into getting the Evo. I'm so glad she did, cause I got the trade....straight across no $$$.

So, now a month later i'm in love with my Evo. I even learned how to root it and I'm running cm7 as I type this out on it.

The only thing I dislike about the stock Evo is the keyboard, but I quickly changed that.

Signed; the luckiest guy this side of the Red River.

Thanks so much for the response. Some good things to think about. I'm leaning towards keeping it because I love it so much. I can upgrade every year, so that's really not that long. I think I will check out the Photon before making a final decision though. Thanks!

I still have my EVO 4G.

I went to the Sprint Store all set to upgrade to the EVO 3D. But I can't find a thing that the EVO 3D can do that my EVO 4G does not do.

I tried again when the Photon came out but still have my EVO 4G.

Whatever your preference, Vote for Sprint's best Android phone.

BIG PLUS... really do love WebOS and will miss it, but the hardware was simply cr@p.

I had 3 warranty replacements and 1 insurance replacement (with a warranty kicker-no cost but went against the policy) for various defect in the hardware from the oreo effect, earpiece speaker not working to the cracking screen from the usb port. I've developed and was waiting for the release of the Pre3 LONG WAITING, until another defect worked its way into my life and without support from HP/Palm for a replacement, I simply said bye...

Love the EVO, large and firm hardware, getting used to Android and kinda liking it, still miss WebOS, but more and more each day absence is lessening the impact...

Hard to say if I don't like my Evo or if I just don't like Sprint - but I'm on Evo #3 and still having major problems. And since Sprint support updated w/o telling me I can't root it. I'm hoping something new will come out similar on a different provider - I think most of the problem is Sprint. I especially liked that I put on a new s/w upgrade today, hoping it might fix some of the problems introduced by the last update, and it took 7 hours for 17mb! That's not the phone - that's Sprint. Concept is good - just wish I could use it for phone calls, text, etc.

So far im happy with my device. Just switched from Verizon due to expensive plan prices. Decided to give the Evo Shift a shot & in my opinion it sucked wasnt enough. Returned it & got the Evo. Its given me some problems here & there but its a good phone overall. Love it. I wanted more out of it so i rooted it & flashed to CM7. Its a bit bumpy with the new rom but ill find a way to fix some of the bugs... But all ur gonna hear from me say is 2 thumbs up for the Evo!

I am very happy with my Evo. I came from a Blackberry Storm2 from Verizon and it froze and needed to be rebooted all the time. So I decided to switch to Sprint and found a great deal on an Evo 4G. I have had it for a few days and I am very happy.

I love my Evo. Got it a few months after it 1st came out. Had 3 smartphones before it. (G1, Hero, & a Transform) The Evo 4G is by far the best of them! I was upset to hear its not getting ics 4.0...but its been a Damn good phone! I will never have a smaller phone!

Ona 1-10 id say its a 8...Had it since it came out. Good phone. However, this crap where it always says "loading" when leaving an app or email or anything......the 20-30 sec pauses... they have gotten really old! It was a flagship type phone when it came out. Now today, I will be retiring mine. :-/ lol. Galaxy 2 should be here later. ;-)

This is the "official" I have an Evo and I love it or hate it - and why thread. Please don't ask questions about the device, just post your opinion after you actually have one in hand.

    Thanks!

I did but now I don't this phone does not have enough internal memory and all the pre installed apps take up 75% of the memory especially after you do the updates and most of the pre installed apps I don't want. If you look at the reviews 80% of the users don't want nascar. I don't either and I don't use Facebook or Flickr. HTC and Android should fix it so if we don't want them we van remove them. I have a Sprint account and now I'm leaning toward the iPhone 4s it has 16mb built in no SD card and Android should reguest there developers to fix there apps to move to the SD card

Screw the iPhone. It has several bad features:

    - 29% smaller screen size
    - special cable??? wtf???
    - dependent on iTunes to do anything, like transferring songs, pictures, video, documents, etc.
    - can't swap in another SD card if you want to
    - can't swap in another battery if you want to

    Droid rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love my Evo as well. Like others in this forum I have been in IT or any other computer science my whole like and up until a year ago I also had a BB Bold.....wow, glad those days are gone. Also as a consequence I learned rooting and modding and cannot put this thing down, so many great things you can do that aren't even possible on another non open source platform. I will prob cry when I upgrade. The only way I will say goodbye is if a dual core, 1.5ghz, 2gb RAM+ext(gb) Evo 4g LTE comes along. One can dream
