OK, I had a problem with my EVO not keeping the 3G connection. It started after the last OTA update. Which I did before it was taken down, changed, then put back up. I ended up with a new Evo. Here is the difference on how the updates went.
The 1st one, after you downloaded the updated, you could still use the phone when it was installing. I think this is what caused people to download it a 2nd time bricking the phone. Since I did not try to download it twice, the phone reset and the update was applied.
This time however, right when the update went to run, it restarted the phone. It then went to a screen showing a progress bar. Nothing could be done with the phone. None of the buttons worked except the screen off and on. After the installation was done, the phone reset again. And BAMB! I had the update. No brick.
Just a FYI incase anyone didn't already know.
