1x data shows up as 3g?

I live in a 1x (2g) area, there is no 3G on Sprint here yet. I have 6 lines with Sprint and my EVO is the only one that claims it is on 3G here, it always says 3G. I have done speed tests and confirmed that I have horribly slow data that goes along with 1x (2g). Has anybody else noticed this with the EVO? I had a Samsung Moment before this and it always displayed 1x, then activated the EVO and haven't seen 1x shown since. Thanks for any info in advance.

I've seen another report about the Evo reporting 3G even where there isn't any. Seems like htc or Sprint screwed up the reporting of this. A relatively minor issue, at least.
