text in status bar?

Is there any way to stop them from showing up there and on the lock screen?
Ive tried Chompsms and now Handcent.

I'm not sure about chomp, but in handcent there is an option. Open Handcent, go to settings, then notification settings, and check 'privacy'. It will still show the notification in the status bar, but won't show the contents of the text. As far as the lockscreen setting, go to the 'popup settings', scroll down near the bottom, and there's an option for 'show when locked'.

thanks, i tried that with handcent and is still happening. should i delete the stock sms app? could that be the issue, because the text are still going to both.

You have to open stock sms app,go to menu,settings and uncheck show notifications.

This, and set handcent as your default messaging app, and turn all notifications off for the stock messaging app.
