    Testing has now concluded. Thanks to eveyrone for your help! Here are the results.

    Comparing all four tests to the stock Pre:
    • Droid X: 6.8x • iPhone: 6x • EVO: 4.4x • Epic: 7.7x • Torch: 7.2x as fast as the stock Pre.

    Comparing all four tests to the 1 GHz Overclocked Pre:
    • Droid X: 4x • iPhone: 3.5x • EVO: 2.5x • Epic: 4.5x • Torch: 4.1x as fast as the 1 GHz Pre.

    Other notes
    • The 2009 BlackBerry Storm and Bold at ~600 MHz are nearly twice as fast as a 1GHz Pre.
    • These apps do not truly close on any of these phones as evidenced by the faster re-open times.
    • Other phones tested were 1.8 to 4.2 times the speed of the Palm Pre overclocked to 1 GHz.

    The initial opening speeds compared to the stock Pre:
    • Droid X: 6.9x • iPhone: 3.9x • EVO: 2.9x • Epic: 5.2x • Torch: 6.3x as fast as the stock Pre.

    How fast is your phone?

    I will post this in several different forums so that we can get results for different phones.

    Would you please do this Real World test and post your results? If you have multiple phones, please test each phone while connected with WiFi. Times are from when you tap the icon until the app fully opens and is usable.

    Real World Speed Test:
    1. With no apps running, time how long it takes to open your Facebook app.
    2. Close Facebook and time how long it takes to re-open Facebook.
    3. Close Facebook and time how long it takes to open Google Maps.
    4. Close Google Maps and time how long it takes to reopen Google Maps.

    Please cut and paste this Report Score Sheet in your reply:

    Real World Speed Test
    1. Time to open Facebook:

    If you would like to see the effects of rebooting, do the test then reboot your phone and repeat the test.

    Basis for the test:
    3G or 4G connection speeds vary by location. WiFi should be similar for everyone. Linpack, Quadrant, and others test the CPU only or the graphics system only. This is a real life test of actually opening two very popular apps available on almost every phone. Time to open email, messages, etc. vary with the number of entries and so are not used.

    Linpack, Quadrant, etc. tell use the theoretical speed of a processor. What I am looking for is how fast a typical app like Facebook or Google Maps will come up for a typical user soccer mom or dad.

    They close it and then 90 seconds later think of something and re-open it.

    They do not know how to close a process or what a process even is. They just open and close things as they need them.

    And the EVO tests are showing that it is smoking fast.

    I think he was just being an ***. I saw a few other threads he replied in, same smart *** replies that don't help the thread whatsoever.

    But in addition to what you said, benchmarks aren't the end all be all. I was super stoked when I saw the quadrant scores on cm6 with the snap 7.6 turbo kernel. Tried it myself, got ~2500 quad scores, but as far as normal operation (opening facebook, google maps, pretty much YOUR test), it was slower than the kernel I'm using now. Benchmarks look cool, but don't always mean everything.
