All of a sudden no one can hear me unless I am on speaker and than it's not that clear. I may have touched a setting or app to save battery use . I don't know but it came out of the blue

    Welcome to AC.

A Reset would be a drastic way of dealing with that, and would wipe the phone.
Try first Settings, then look in Sounds, also Accessibility, also Battery if you think you may have done a battery-saving thing.

Give this a try and see if it helps. Make sure you backup your data before doing this. A factory reset will wipe everything from the phone and you will have to reload all your apps. A clean install is good to clear the tonsils, keeps things uncluttered.

Performing a factory reset using hardware buttons

1.Remove the battery, wait for a few seconds, then reinsert the battery.
2.Press and hold the Volume down button, and then press and hold the Power button.
3.Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the Power and Volume down buttons.
