Complete noob

Hey everyone, i've been wactching many android forums for a couple months now. I recently just rooted my phone using the easy method on here. It was very easy. I have a few questions though. Is there a site or thread (don't yell me at me i've searched) that tells everything like what shell is and what exactly is a rom and all that good stuff? also, I'm pretty confident in myself to put the leaked 2.1 on my phone, but I'm still not sure what and how to back up my things. For instance, do I need to back up my contacts, my sms's, my apps? and if I do how do I go about doing this? Sorry if I sound stupid, I just got my first android device in early March and was kinda scared to play with it. Thanks in advance!

You contacts, email and apps are backed up through Google. Your sms would need to be backed up. I'll see if I can find a link for that.

Since you are already rooted, you can use Titanium Backup

Titanium Backup (root) v3.0.4 Application for Android | Tools

sms backup by christof studer backs up sms to your google account... dunno how to restore them, but if you go to gmail.com, they show up there in the browser
