I'm on Hero 1.5 / T-Mobile G2, enabled USB debug, not mounted the SD or anything and I'm getting this;

$ chmod 0755 /data/local/asroot2
$ /data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh
[1] Killed /data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh
$ mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
mount: Operation not permitted
$ cd /system/bin
$ cat sh > su
cannot create su: read-only file system

What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

(Cross posted on XDA)

I keep getting "Bus Error" when issuing ADB commands and have no access to the phone. This issue recently came up after a month or two of not using ADB.

Everything worked fine with 1.5. Now that I have been using Rooted 2.1 ROMS (currently Damage) I am unable to use commands.

Anyone know what "Bus Error" means and how to correct it? (I have uninstalled and reinstalled the SDK to no avail)

Thanks in advance.

hello i joined this forum just so I could get some help.

I'm getting stuck on step 6. I put in the first line and this is what i get

King-Kobras-MacBook-Pro:tools adamkelly$ ./adb push asroot2 /data/local/
cannot stat 'asroot2': No such file or directory

I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong but any help would be great.

Do you have the 2.1 update installed on your phone? Just asking since you are rooting for the first time and want to make sure that you didn't update to 2.1. If you did, then follow this guide provided by Beezy: http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-hero-roms-hacks/15229-guide-rooting-2-1-a.html

Otherwise I would double check ot make sure you have downloaded asroot2 and placed it in the /sdk/tools folder.

I do not have the 2.1 installed on my phone. but I do want it.

should I root it then install 2.1 or should I install 2.1 then root my phone?

the main things I want are to tether for wireless and have 2.1.

and your right i never placed the asroot2 in the /sdk/tools folder.

p.s. I'm new to this so I'm most likely going to be asking a lot of stupid questions with easy fixes.

thanks

alright after the first problem everything went fine until last step where I put the code
reboot recovery

now my phone is stuck at the htc screen when you turn on your phone.

I think I remember reading that it does take a while. but how long should I wait on this screen before I take out the battery?

It should only take a few min a most.Did you give it a little time after entering in command to flash recovery image?
