Rooting Cellcom Hero

Does anyone know if this is possible? I have had the phone for 4 months and would love to root it. Everything I see is for the Sprint Hero. This is CDMA also but just for Cellcom (local WI carrier).

should be the same process, but you can't load Sprint Hero based ROM's You would need a Cellcom based ROM. The can be reverse-programmed to work, but just loading a Sprint ROM runs you the risk of having items not working on the Network side.
Just rooting is fine, it allows you to run root access apps like wifi tether and ShootMe to take screen shots, but you still have 1.5, just like the original.

That makes sense. I can root it to get root access but there most likley are not any 2.1 ROM's made for Cellcom.

check out XDA-Developers.com, there are US Cellular ROMs, maybe there are Cellcom ones.

its opening up your sd card to allow it to read/write. I would try out rooting it the normal way first. basically, you wouldn't be able to flash a recovery (send the recovery to the sdcard using the comand prompt/terminal then flash it from there) if a goldcard is needed.
