Update stock applications?

Is there a way to update applications (even if manually) that came stock with the phone like Google Maps when new versions come out, or do you just have to go download the new one from the app catalog?

i cant find a way to do it.

It will alert you when you open them up if there is an update... When I got the phone, there was an update to the NFL app. Before i could run it, it downloaded the update, installed it and then I was ready to go.
If you're looking for Maps 4.0, you're going to be waiting a while.
