can send but not recieve emails (hotmail)

ok, just got a htc hero the other day and pleased with it so far however i haven't been able to set up the email correctly it seems.

i enter the following details under 'other/pop3'

incoming Server
(POP3 Server): pop3.live.com
Incoming Server POP Port: 995
SSL

Outgoing Server (SMTP Server): smtp.live.com
Outgoing Server SMTP Port: 25
Outgoing Server Authentication: Yes (On ? Use POP username and password or Hotmail credentials)
TLS

also tried port 587 for outgoing.

after completing set up i have a single email from 'windows live hotmail team' where the subject is #expired news letter mail' and the body 'this is an old news letter and has expired.'

no emails are recieved however i triend sending an email and this works fine with the sender being my hotmail account etc. any thoughts? i guess theres a problem with my incoming settings but i've checked them time and time again. there must be a simple mistake though?

also not sure if it makes any difference, but the account is a 'hotmail.co.uk'
