I know this is an odd question and probably asked a few times but, is there anyway i can tether my phone to my computer (Linux box) and send and recieve text messages via the computer so i can just have it in another screen instead of reaching for my phone when im busy?

Well if you have Gmail, you can attach your phone number to that and send texts through the chat system, but I don't know about receiving them..try Googling it.

You can do the same with AOL Instant Messaging (AIM) by adding the phone number to your buddy list in this format: +12225551234

Also you can SMS with Google Voice.

    Self promoting never hurts:

I had the same problem, so I wrote TextToCloud. It comes with a small PHP file you install onto your own private web server, and it connects to that.

    It's free at https://market.android.com/details?i...th.texttocloud

Oh, the cool thing is it still works even if you're outside Wifi range of your phone..

I like to use https://market.android.com/details?i....android&hl=en - it is just perfect to do what it should do - and nothing more.
