I'm trying to apply the 4.4 update through the stock recovery, but as I enter the stock recovery I get this message

"Mount SDCard failed 1 times
Mount SDCard failed 2 times
Mount SDCard failed 3 times
Mount SDCard failed 4 times
Mount SDCard failed 5 times
Can not mount SD Card. (No such file or directory)
I:Write host_mod: 0 done"

Then if I select "apply from phone storage" I get

"Check cid failed!
--invalid operation--"

then the phone reboots...

Did you reboot just prior to trying to install the update? Maybe remove the card and try to update. You can put it back in after.

Yes, I noticed after I posted that you meant your phone was rooted as well. Sorry I don't know much about that at all.

Did you rename the file to update.zip? And did you place at root of SD card

The SDCard mount failure is normal because you dont have one, the other part sounds like you may have your CID wrong? I had no trouble updating this way. I used ES File Explorer to download to my phones Downloads folder and booted the same way you did. Selected the file and all went well. Im using super cid and not the GOOGL001 cid also. I have an unlocked boot loader, not rooted and dont use a custom recovery. I like mine 100% stock.

I have the same issue. I'm not concerned about the SD card failure. I'm more concerned about the failed CID check.
Stock everything; unlocked bootloader.

After VolUp+Power:
Mount SDCARD failed 1 times
Mount SDCARD failed 2 times
Mount SDCARD failed 3 times
Mount SDCARD failed 4 times
Mount SDCARD failed 5 times
Can not mount SD Card.(No such file or directory)
1:Write host_mode:0 done

Then I choose "apply from phone storage" and...
Check cid failed!

-- Invalid operation. --

Then the phone reboots back to the OS.

Via "fastboot getvar all" (I deleted the SN and IMEI)

I am getting the same exact error when trying to update to KitKat on my completely stock, un-rooted GPE HTC One.

"Check cid failed" when I select "apply from phone storage".

I've tried multiple times and I get the same error every time. I have also cleared /cache, no change.

I have the same problem. I don't think it is Cid issue. I completely removed the ota update from my storage and attempted to update and got the same error! That tells me the phone can't find the update in storage.

It shouldn't be a CID issue, I have never changed anything along those lines.

I ran the same command as OP and got the same CID: (bootloader) cidnum: GOOGL001

Is it even giving you the screen where you can select the ./sdcard or ./0?

Well after giving up on side loading OTA from stock recovery, I finally got the update pushed to my phone from google last night. Updated without a glitch! Enjoying my KitKat:)

For those who are still having problems side loading OTA, my advice is to just be patient and wait for the update. It will happen sooner or later.

Good to hear. I am stock GPE as well but still haven't received the OTA. So from what I have kind of understood from searching is that it's being rolled out in sections? (Does this mean that mostly it's a line to get the update and some people with the GPE will get it sooner than others?)
