Paid $200 plus the upgrade fee for the phone. Graphics stutter in games, I'm talking angry birds / jetpack joyride lag. This is regardless of the temperature of the device (I've measured it) This is my second one, (the first was returned due to dust under the screen.) This is unacceptable for such a high quality device. By stutter, I mean the game freezes for a split second then resumes. This is noticeable on every game I've tried. Thoughts, suggestions? I know the device isn't reaching the 40c throttle point. Sigh...
Would putting a kernel on the phone fix the lag?

Try Jetpack Joyride and Gravity Guy...the first one jumps every 3 seconds or so and the second one is just incredibly low fps

Angry birds seasons I could play almost perfectly in power saver. It would studders when the certain ads came up for me. Then I removed power saver and couldn't reproduce. Let me try the others.

bbinder, did you play the trial version of gravity guy or the original? also, i don't want to root my phone. it's not getting above 40c so there's no reason to root it for throttling issues. amazing breaker gave me no lag at all, and high end games don't give me lag either, it seems to be the 2d platformers...and well, final fantasy iii as well jumps on the overworld. I just don't understand it.

I played the trial. The only lag I got from gravity guy was in the beginning. Like the intro to it, but while playing there were no issues. The link wasn't all about rooting, but just ideas about things like:
    1. Don't play wth the phone plugged in, as it can overheat and slow the proc down
    2. Turn off data sync as that takes CPU cycles away from the games and gives it to other resources
    3. Maybe close out of all the other apps that are running
    4. Fine tune the brightness levels
    5. Maybe, depending on what you have installed for Anti-virus (if you do) you can disable that

Go get yourself a Galaxy S4, I am eagerly waiting for your posts about Touchwiz lag, 9gb available disk space, or how apps dont move to SD card.

Better yet, you can go for a Moto X talk about 720p screen, dual core vs quad core, or how can you make a terrible camera.

Or the G2 where the first thread I read was about the power button falling off....

FYI, the grass is never ever really ever greener.

Not sure about what you have for a ROM or your phone carrier, but do you have this option set that you can maybe enable?
Settings>Developer Options>Advanced>Force GPU rendering (for use of GPU for 2d drawing)

I have Jetpack Joyride to test this theory out and yup, it lags. It lags about every three seconds. Just a slight lag, nothing game changing, but as i play and get further, i could pretty much guess when it would happen. Same thing i noticed about Techno Kitten Adventure on my HTC Rezound, where it would lag a little, but no lag playing these on my girls iPhone 4s. Went back to try Techno Kitten Adventure on HTC One and no noticeable stop lag, like there is in Jetpack. My friend right next to me has a Galaxy S4, and Jetpack Joyride also lags on his phone about every 3 seconds.

My honest opinion, is that your phone is fine. Nothing wrong with it lagging on Jetpack Joyride. It's just the App itself. Apple does a great job at App optimization, because they only have like five platforms to develop for, old iPhone, iPhone with Retina, iPad, iPad with Retina, new A7 chip. Where in Android world, there are thousands of different Android devices. So Developers don't have the time to go through and optimize their apps for each individual phone. The minimum requirements are so low on some of these apps that they do that to reach a greater audience. So Joe Blow with his LG Optimus Dynamic clocking 500mhz processor can play Jetpack Joyride. I love Jetpack Joyride, it plays smooth on an Ipad, but it's not yet updated on Android to take advantage of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor.

I play a lot of Angry Birds with Friends, buttery smooth. I haven't tried other Angry Birds, but i bet at least one of them, either Space, Rio, Two, Star wars, Seasons, probably lags. Also I play Bad Piggies and it doesn't lag. Super Stickman Golf 2 (slight lag), Bike Race, Ice Rage, no lag.

Never tried Gravity Guy but I downloaded it and I too see the low fps performance on my HTC One as well.

Now download a game called Play Tennis by Clapfoot. It is optimized to run 60fps on most android devices. It runs buttery smooth on the HTC One. If it doesn't run smooth on your One, then your One has a problem.

I just tried going into Developer Options, and Advanced, and forcing GPU Rendering, and then trying Jetpack Joyride that way, and it still lags.

So if the only thing wrong with your HTC One is that it lags when playing Jetpack Joyride, everything will be fine. But if you want a phone specifically to play these types of 2D games on them, then get an iPhone 5.

It is a beautiful phone and probably on par with the iPhone for design BUT I got my Verizon HTC One on release day and the 1st one I got horrible battery so I returned, the second got so hot using GPS plugged into my car it restarted, and the third also got poor battery life and had poorly finished ports and the gap issues.

Overall the phone is the best HTC phone yet, but the sub par battery and quality control were major major turn offs. In the end I traded my HTC One to someone for a S4. The S4 doesn't have the feel or build of the One by any means but I have no gaps, I get very good battery life, and the phone has tons of features.

With Verizon version they don't have power saving mode, but I noticed even on standby the phone drained very fast and I was loosing 1% every minute or less. From 7-7 with the One I had 30%-20% left in the tank and that is with little to no use. With the same setting with the S4 going 7-7 with little use I am left with 60% left. I just find the extra mah and the S4's ability to handle battery life much much better

I agree, and your phone shouldn't lag. Mine doesn't on those exact same games. Are you stock? Sense 5? GPe? Or rooted? Because if you are - it's the ROM.

Mine doesn't lag when playing ANY game, from simple games like Angry Birds to hardware-strainers like Real Racing 3.

My One gets 55 FPS average on Epic Citadel on high graphics (not max).

Your phone shouldn't lag. Maybe something's hogging your CPU. Do you have any AV apps installed?

My Gnex would lag with Jetpack Joyride sometimes, but when it did it was very bad. Now I have the LG G2 and it hasn't lag once. This is pretty much the only game I play LOL.
