Whats up everyone! So its been almost a week an i really am digging my htc one. Took time to get use to an im still learning from it after being a iphone user since day one. Well here i am debating if i should root or not. I really dont know much about it or how to do it or which sites/files i should use that is safe. I dont like all the at&t bloatware an sense 5 is cool an all but the google play edition 4.3 looks nice an simple with still being able to customize etc. My question is if i do go this route will i get OTA updates normally as if it were a htc one i bought full price with GPE 4.3 on it?

Thanks!

If u root, you cannot take the official ota from the carrier because it could unroot you and prevent u from rooting again, most likely the phone will show that the update failed because when you root, you have to install a custom recovery which the ota won't recognize.

When rooted, you have to wait for a developer to get the official ota and root it so you can download and flash it.

Oh ok gotcha. So its best to stay stock in a way with sense 5 or actually fork out the $600 for the htc one GPE i assume?

It would be better if you spend more time with the stock Sense 5 until you get used to all the things in Android in general. After that, you can try installing ROMs like a GPE if you want to try the stock Android experience. Once going into ROMs it's easy to revert back to stock but as Jrocker23 said, you will need to update via ROMs and not over-the-air updates.

You only need to root to install ROMs or to remove carrier-installed apps/bloatware.

Personally, I really like Sense 5 and its features. Specially the camera ones like Zoe, Highlight, etc. that you don't get on GPE.

Try installing a 3rd party launcher like Nova, a lock screen replacement like DashClock Widget and Icon packs for 3rd party launchers if you want to customize your phone even more.
