Underclock or Hotplug to Save Battery Life

I've been trying to figure out which saves more battery.. I could do them both, but that would cause too much lag. Will making my phone run on one core while set to 1.7 GHz max save more battery than keeping every core active and clocked at 702 MHz? I'd test it myself if I had the time. I hope someone actually responds. No one seems to be responding to the Q&A thread on XDA.

IMO i would not do this. just let your phone run at default settings. it's the best balance between performance and battery life. tinkering here is really not necessary. here are some battery savings tips that work for me with no hardship -
