Just look at the distance from the bottom of the device up to the apps drawer icon. You could drive a Cadillac through there.

I don't mind the extra space. The capacitive buttons on my EVOLTE are close to the bottom and easy to hit accidentally.

What do we expect the screen size to be, the same as last year or slightly bigger? Why didn't they get rid of the HTC Logo and use the bar for the capacitive buttons and add back the missing button or remove it altogether and make the screen bigger. Had the HTC One great device, but Sense was just not my thing and GPE made it better except for the camera portion. Too bad was considering this but most likely the GS5.
