The beats audio partnership is over, the m8 will most likely have an HTC equalizer

how does a different equalizer affect the loudness? (assuming it's the identical speaker)

I'm no sound expert, but I think that the equalizer won't affect the volume so much as it will affect the quality of the sound.

I'm betting they will sound about the same is my guess. I'm ok with that. I love the HTC One's speakers as it currently stands. Super loud and and they sound great!
