Can you get rid of the long-press/google search function?

I know it was slower to respond on the One X so it was rarely an issue but I frequently pop up the google search page and I don't want to. Can it be turned off or adjusted without something majorly inconvenient like rooting? Thx.

From what I can tell, it's not a long press. It's press and then swipe up.

Download the app Screen Off and Lock, now every time you swipe up from the home button, you will have the option to use Google now (or Google search if you have now disabled) or Screen Off and Lock. Trust me, it's awesome. HTC should have included this into the motion launches
