I bought a new HTC ONE M8 and I can't send any gifs to my friends because they don't play for them, and I've tried Google hangout in which I can see the gif I sent playing and the gif they sent playing but on their phone they don't see my gifs playing...

When you are messaging them with the Hangout app, do you see a tiny green bubble on the bottom left beside the text box? If you just see a grey box that says "SMS" then that would be the reason why. SMS/MMS doesn't support animated GIFs.

They would also need to be using the Hangouts app obviously.

I thought MMS does support animates GIFs. Why do you think not?

I guess I should have stated "I don't think" MMS supports animated .GIFs. After looking into things further, I'll admit I was mistaken.

That said, it appears I may have stumbled upon something interesting. It appears the Hangouts app may be converting animated .GIF files larger than a certain amount into a .JPEG file, which would remove the animation.

    Obviously a Google fail.
