    So the email app, texting app, galery, etc.. all have a colored notification bar like you see in typical Google apps on Lollipop.. but when you're running the latest version of these apps on the M8, they don't color the notification bar.

    I've seen other apps that do color the notification bar.. is this Google just not enabling it on any devices that aren't running L? or are they not using some sort of API that HTC has that calls this and instead run their own?

    It's just HTC apps that do it as part of the theme engine

    It's not only HTC apps..

    Battery Widget Reborn does it, Inside (it's a news app) does it, and a couple others that I forget without looking at my phone..
