HTC One M8: White spots on photos taken at night

I noticed some white spots on the photos that I took night time. The lens cover is not scratched. I tried with and without the case. The spots are there if the light comes from a certain angle. Sometimes there are more spots, sometimes less. Looks like an optical issue. Any idea how to get rid of them?

Try taking a picture of something that will fill the screen with black to see if the dots are still there.

If they still appear, it is likely related to the sensor.

But if they don't, the dots might be reflections of light off your lens. In that case, you'll have to find another angle.
