Is There Really No Way to Sync iTunes Playlists?

I want to sync iTunes playlists to my HTC One M8, but can find no way to do so. I've spent more than 2 hours on the phone with HTC tech support, none of whom could solve my problem.

I know I CAN copy songs onto my phone, but for playlists to work they need to be organized in folders by artist, with subfolders by album. If they aren't I have to recreate every single iTunes playlist manually. Then, any time I change a playlist, I have to make the change a second time on the phone.

I know I CAN copy all the songs onto the phone and have iTunes sort them as a new library, but I can never sync them once I do that. Every time I add or change a song in iTunes, I'll have to remember to go to my phone and make the same changes.

What I NEED to do is sync selected playlists in iTunes with my phone in such a way that the playlists will work (organized music folders) and that the music can be synced now and then, and any changes made since the last sync will be made on the phone as well.

This should be easy to do. This is syncing music at its most basic level. Every smartphone I've owned previously was able to do this by default. Apparently the HTC One M8 is incapable of this. Can anyone help me?

Welcome to Android Central! Keep in mind that you're trying to make something from Apple completely compatible with something from Google. It's not always easy to do--in fact, it can sometimes be close to impossible to get the two platforms to work together.

Have you already tried iSyncr or DoubleTwist?

It seems the problem lies with HTC, not with any Apple-to-Google connection issue. My Google G1, my Google G2, and my Samsung Galaxy S2 could all do this. I'm not trying to do any sort of complex, obscure, or esoteric thing. I simply want to copy music from a computer onto my phone in such a way that a playlist can translate it, and then sync the songs anytime I change the files on the computer.

I've tried isyncr, itunemywalkman, doubletwist, and wondersharetunego, none of which are able to do this.

HTC comes with its Sync Manager application, which should be able to handle this. However I can't make it do anything. As I mentioned earlier, I have spent more than two hours on the phone with two different HTC agents (one of which was a specialist with whom I had to wait a week to speak to after my problem was "escalated") and neither had any idea how to sync music to the phone. How can this be?

DoubleTwist does EXACTLY THIS!

I have SO MANY playlist in itunes and Doubletwist is able to sync each playlist and keep them separate within the doubletwist app.
Use AIRSYNC as well so u can sync your playlist wirelessly

For what I'm trying to do, neither isyncr nor doubletwist works. I see both have paid versions, but I'm not impressed enough with either to pay to find out if they will work.

More importantly-- I shouldn't HAVE to pay for this. This is basic phone functionality that the HTC phone ought to be include.

Try email the guys at iSyncr for help, even if you don't have the paid for version - I had some issues caused by my iTunes library being on a NAS drive and they were super helpful in getting it working again.

HTC doesn't own itunes so why would they include a option for a competitor product?

As for what you are trying to do the options do work I synced all my playlist from my itunes to my m8 with no issues. It isn't free but its definitely going to get the job done.

Have you checked to see how many of your songs are DRM protected? A whole bunch of mine were, and that's why things like double twist, isyncr, etc. wouldn't work. Even HTC sync manager wouldn't pick those protected songs up. I did some research and found that the cheapest and most effective way to get around the DRM thing is to sign up for iMatch. Kinda stinks cuz it's $24.99/year but, like I said, it's the cheapest and most effective way. Anyway, you sign up for that, then it goes and searches for all of the DRM Protected songs, then, after it's finished, you go in to your library, sort your songs by "kind" and then delete all of the ones that say "protected file," during this process, you'll select "move to recycling bin/trash," then you'll navigate back to your iTunes library and redownload all of the songs you just deleted from icloud by clicking on the little cloud icon. After that, go back into your HTC sync manager and click "refresh library." All of the songs that you couldn't see on sync manager before should now be there. Then all you have to do is hook up your phone, click in sync manager the little white box/white phone icon next to all of the songs you want to transfer to your phone until that icon turns blue, then hit "sync" and voilà, you should be ready to go!
