HTC M8 will not give me a forgot password option. How can I get into my phone or reset the password?

HTC M8 will not give me a forgot password option.

I have an HTC M8. I forgot my pattern lock and deliberately entered the wrong patten to get the 'forgot password' option. I am currently at 700 attempts. But the option to enter my Google account will not appear.
Is this no longer an option or is there a setting that needed to be switched on before I got to this point?

*Update* I contacted HTC and was told that this was a software update that removed that option. Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do next?

You can only hard reset I believe.
