com.android.settings has stopped unexpectedly

[AC Question]

Hi there,

I have HTC One M8. When I try to open Settings, I get the error: "com.android.settings has stopped unexpectedly". And Settings therefore does not open (it opens and then crashes).
Things I've tried:
- factory reset
- removing sd card
- uninstalling several random apps I thought may have been the cause (altough I cannot go into App Manager since this is in Settings)
- rebooting in safe mode

I've seen similar problems in a few places on the internet - no solutions that have worked for me. HUGE thank you if anyone can help!!

Welcome to Android Central! If this is happening in Safe Mode as well, then it's either a firmware issue or a hardware issue. You could try reinstalling the firmware: ROM Downloads for your HTC smartphone - Support | HTC United States
