Any Tips for Macro Photography?

With my Rezound, I was able to get very good close up pics, but I can never get the M9 to focus whether in macro or auto mode. Any tips? Here is one old pic from my Rezound. Can anyone replicate it with the M9?

No, I was hoping that wouldn't be necessary to be able to match a phone that came out nearly 3.5 years ago.

I guess I need to take back what I said, but getting this shot required using a direct light source, switching to macro mode, locking the focus/ exposure, and a few tries. With my Rezound it was as simple as tapping the screen to focus and it took care of the rest.

That looks pretty good. I can't ever get mine to focus.

I did have a 54 lumen LED light directly pointing at the coin. Without a direct light source (if shooting indoors or dark conditions), it is very difficult for it to focus.
