OK so just rooted my phone the other day, still running stock using TWRP (Sprint HTC One). Now I have a notification in my top bar telling me that I have a new system update ready. I'm relatively new to this whole root thing so I'm hesitant to do things until I get more information.

What do I do? I recall reading before that if I run system updates I will lose root access so I don't want to run the update yet. But that damn notification is just sitting there teasing me. Not that it was hard, but I really don't want to have to go through the whole Unlock Bootloader/Root process again if I don't have to.

    Any suggestions?

You cannot update while you're rooted, it may very well damage your device. You'll need to back to stock if you want to do so, and that's done either by restoring a Nandroid Backup you made BEFORE you rooted the device and then flashing stock recovery, or installing the proper RUU for your device.

Just out of curiousity, may I know what the update says (as in description of it, is it 4.2.2 or just a 1.29 firmware update that's around 17MB in size?) and what your CID is? There's a small application on Playstore called CID Getter that'll tell you what your CID is if you don't know how to get it.

    Thanks!

Just noticed that it's the 1.29.651.10 update (23.89 MB) (Damn....thought it was the 4.2.2 update)

and as I'm not really aware as to what a CID is, I would rather not post that

This is a list of all HTC CIDs: [Archive] HTC CID List - GSM-Forum

CID usually is like Carrier Identification or Country Identification, I am not sure, but basically each region and carrier has its own CID. In the Middle East we have HTC__J15. It's okay, though, I only asked you about it because I thought it was the 4.2.2 update. Don't bother with the firmware update.

yeah I thought that it was the 4.2.2 also, it was just a coincidence that this one popped up at the same time that the 4.2.2 was showing up elsewhere. It got me all excited for nothing Any idea how to get that notification off of the screen?

I am not sure because I am running a custom ROM which doesn't have the "Software Update" tab under Settings. You can try going to that tab under Settings, though, and seeing if there's a check box somewhere to disable notifications. You can also ask on XDA if there is any chance of updating over the air without messing anything up, including the root. I Googled for you and I found mixed answers - some say it is possible if you haven't done any serious modifications to your software while being rooted (which could be hard to tell) and others say you cannot.

Just flash the stock rooted 1.29.651.10 and you'll be good. As far as the CID it doesnt matter on a sprint phone cause its cdma and no chance of switching carriers or using a different RUU on it.
