Does it come with wi-fi calling app?
Can you let us know the battery life in a couple of days? Headphones any good? Worth upgrading from the sensation ? Thanks for the help
Do you have the Google Play Movies and Books apps in the launcher? My One X didn't include them, although they are accessible via the Play Store.
How is that S4 compared to the tegra 3 (Real Life usage)?
you mean *** sonofagun lol
I have a question. What happens if you stick it in a box and send it to West Virginia?
I'll bet it's something wonderful.
:P
How difficult would it be to unlock the T-mobil version so that it could be used with SIMs in Europe and Asia?
Blam! Oops, sorry ... I was aiming for the apple sitting on your head....
Should be no app required on T-Mo. They rolled it out to the Amaze late December. Just enables it in the Wireless settings....
Postage's cheaper to RTP, NC. I'll send you my Amaze as a consolation prize. :P
Okay, questions. I know that with only the onboard 9GB available, the camera's ability to record much 720P or 1080P video is pretty slim ... < a minute. Did you top out your storage with that lovely Seattle skyline video?
Have you tried the Dropbox integration? In practice, how's it work having all your images/video sync to the cloud after taking? Seeing much of your data plan after a day of sightseeing? (Dont' tell me T-Mobile didn't see this coming, and rub their hands together ravenously.)
How's it set on a tabletop? Does it rest flat with that camera bezel? I imagine the On^H^HWeeble X wobbles but won't fall down....
What's the benefit of wifi calling?
I am not familiar with this function, can anyone explain it and why it is special?
How'd you get one? :p
Sent from my LG-VM670 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
Just load them from Google Play. They'll work fine.
Answered that one in our Complete T-Mobile HTC One S Review.
(Yes, it is included.)
HTC one S or Motorola Razr?
Which phone should I get?
Here are the cons of each one when compared to one another.
HTC ONE S cons
No SD Card
Only 10GB of user available storage
Shorter Battery life
Bigger form factor (although they are both 4.3" screens)
Small front-facing camera
Motorola Razr cons
No ICS yet
Slower processor (1.2ghz vs 1.5ghz on the ONE S)
Not many camera features
older phone in general (I prefer the newest tech)
No FM radio
No 4G (although my network currently offers HSDPA+ only)
although it may seem straight forward given I have more 'cons' for the Motorola razr, I prefer to have a longer battery life. That is one of the most important things I need. It offers an expandable memory, which I usually need.
I don't play a lot of games, usually Sudoku, but I don't know how the different processors will be able to handle my multitasking. Which I do a lot of.
Can anybody give me their opinion on these phones? Which one will suit me best. I edit docs on the go, check the news and email. Battery life is essential because I am not constantly near chargers. I use every single trick to extend battery life. (I am unable to get the RAZR MAXX but I would).
My previous phone was an Atrix and used to get stuck all the time when I was playing music and working at the same time.
Don't offer me any new alternatives, please. I'm already having a hard time deciding.
Thanks in advance.
Let's say you have a T-Mo HTC SENSATION 4G... is it worth upgrading? please advise (not talking about money-wise)
For me? To get ICS and Sense 4 and that sexy form factor? Yeah. I would. (And if we don't care about money.)
You left out the most important consideration. Carrier.
If you're just talking phone vs. phone, it's tough. But I like the way the One S feels compared to the RAZR. I prefer a phone that doesn't feel like it was designed to attack.
Will it work with T-Mobile's prepaid plans?
Dunno why it wouldn't.
T-Mobile unboxing videos show that the specs list video recording as 1080p HD video at 60 frames per second..
Is 60 fps a typo?(sounds too good to be true) I always thought it was 30 and fell off my chair when the box listed 60 ..

Phil,
I saw you mention that you are a T-Mobile subscriber and I keep hearing that HSPA+ is actually faster on mobile phones right now that LTE. Maybe you can give some of us non-T-Mobile subscribers an overview of what to expect from HSPA+ (vs LTE), their WiFi calling to fill the coverage gaps, and previous software update release timeliness, if we decided to jump ship and move to T-Mobile for this phone. What would make us regret leaving our current carrier? Thanks!
A few questions. First, I listened to the Vergecast podcast review and they loved the phone but said the display was poor. I checked the screen specs on my current phone, Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant and its:
Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
480 x 800 pixels, 4.0 inches (~233 ppi pixel density)
Corning Gorilla Glass
I think the display on my Vibrant is beautiful. The display specs on the One S seems similar to me as both are Amoled. From T-Mobile's site
"4.3” qHD Super AMOLED Touch Screen
Experience incredible clarity and vibrant color on a 960x540 qHD Super AMOLED touch screen."
Are HTC's screens just lower quality?
Second question is does the One S have Swype?
Third question is have you tried bluetooth yet? One complaint about my Vibrant is its undependable connection to Sync in my Ford. If I do a factory reset its fine for a while but eventually Sync will fail to detect the phone on its own. I have to manually reconnect it.
Well, it's not really "HTC's screen." They don't make it. The fact is it's not as good as what's on the One X. Period. Anyone who's seen the One X screen is going to be disappointed by the One S screen. But as I said in my review, it's not necessarily a deal killer.
Not out of the box. You'll have to install the beta. But it does have HTC's version of Swype, which has gotten better.Second question is does the One S have Swype?
Yes, but not with a Ford. :p I know BT can be touchy, though. Best bet is to start a new thread here asking Ford owners once they get the phone. (But FWIW, I haven't had BT problems with anything I've tried to connect it to.)Third question is have you tried bluetooth yet? One complaint about my Vibrant is its undependable connection to Sync in my Ford. If I do a factory reset its fine for a while but eventually Sync will fail to detect the phone on its own. I have to manually reconnect it.
It all depends on the coverage. If you're in a good T-Mobile area, the speeds can be great. Wifi calling is great if you're on Wifi.
Sure sounds high, but I just confirmed 60fps with HTC.
I read on another forum that there might be a bug with the audio during Skype and some games (like GTA). Wondering if this happens on yours.
Are there any additional quirks/bugs that you have noticed?
Also, is the firmware a newer version compared to the European version? Maybe that's a dumb question haha
LMAO. Last time I checked, Skype was one big bug. :p
Don't worry about firmware versions. Different phones on different networks with different radios darn well should have different firmwares. I'd worry if they didn't.
I thought carriers had about stopped with the whole Carrier IQ thing, but according to this T-Mo doc the One S has Carrier IQ, any thoughts on that? Personally I'm not swayed much by it as it'll get CM9'd as soon as it's available
Support: Tech specs: HTC One S
Do you guys at the all-knowing Android Central have any recent 2012 T-Mobile roadmaps showing what other Android devices might be launching this year?? I am very ambivalent to the One S because of the lack of removable battery and lack of expandable memory and I don't want to use my upgrade on May 15th to only have buyers remorse 2 months later if the Galaxy S3 or something else were to launch! I know I can always buy one on Craigslist or something but it's easier to save my upgrade!
Ben
Don't be too sure of that! lol. The Amaze has been out for months, and still doesn't have a daily driver worthy (unless you don't need data/voice) CM9 yet.
I think Phil may have answered that already, assuming that CarrierIQ is covered by the HTC privacy opt-out:
http://www.androidcentral.com/sense-4-privacy
I can't disagree, my G2, which seemed to be a CM fav phone, still doesn't have CM9 either...
I have a value plan with Tmobile, and I was sold on forking out $600 for the oneS until this morning when google started selling the unlocked galnexus for $400. Does the $200 difference justify the faster processor and better camera in the oneS or is the $400 pure google phone with no contract extension going to suffice? How would you compare the two?
Don't forget that the unlocked Nexus is only HSPA+ 21 too, while the One S is HSPA+ 42.
I think Phil hit the nail on the head with "If you're in a good T-Mobile area". In the Denver area I've seen up to 6 MB downloads and don't usually have issues getting at least 2 MB. I don't know where the LTE service tops out around here, but I know several people who can't consistently beat those numbers on Big Red's LTE.
HTC One S, Nexus, S2 or wait for the S3?
How much will the phone be with the value plan? 200 with 20 payments of 20?

Hey Phil thanks for taking the time to answer our questions.... I used to have an Amaze 4G and I was SO dissapointed by the screen... although it`s qHD at 256 PPI I used to see pixels ALL OVER the damn screen... colors and shading was pixelated... it was a disaster while my wife`s Vivid looked REALLY crisp.... does this happen with the One S screen since they have the same resolution and ppi? maybe it was just a S-LCD thing...
I have a question for all the audiophiles.
I love the DAC that's in my Vibrant and GalaxyTab 10.1. The Wolfson Micro WM8994 Series for those that don't know. What DAC comes with the One S? and is the speaker on the phone loud enough for use with humans?
Thanks!
-Rob
I'm on the verge of snatching up ONE S, especially with t-mobiles upcoming $100 trade in for a working smartphone. Bye, Bye old G1.
But wait with the pentaband GNEX on Google Play for $399 I'm not sure what to do. The GNEX would obviously be a bigger, purer experience.
Which way to go? I will say I love the sense calendar and agenda widgets.
Actually, no. That's for Sense and Tell HTC.
Gonna do a separate post on the T-Mobile thing here in a minute. (Meant to do it in the review, actually.)
Phil,
Any news as to when the black version will be available for T-mo?
Thanks
My contract is up in a couple of months, so I have time, but thinking ahead, I'm REALLY nervous about that battery. I had the HTC G1, which had a CRAP battery, and I keep hearing that HTC keeps putting form over functionality and thinks battery life is not important. That coupled with a non-removable battery makes me leery. I want a smartphone that can last the whole day without a charge. I currently have the Samsung Vibrant, but I'm turned off by Samsung because once they issue their phone, they move on to the next one and don't support the original. Any more thoughts on the battery life, Phil?
What about battery life? My sensation and amaze will last 5 or 6 hours on standby, just reading and answering a few emails and a couple of calls... I have them customized to save battery but it won't last more than 6 hours. Is this fixed now?
Not sure what you expect to be "fixed" from one phone to another. It's an entirely different device, altogether.
http://images.cheezburger.com/comple...0b960d5062.jpg
It really, REALLY comes down to your connection to TMo. If you're in a good network spot, battery life actually is pretty good.
If you can be on Wifi as much as possible, it's even better.
And we all need to remember that battery life and battery capacity are two different things.
Wasn't aware that it'd been announced. So ... no.
Not sure about the Vivid. But, yeah. It's noticeable. Takes some getting used to if you're coming back to qHD Super AMOLED from 720p LCD 2 plus. :-/
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
That's a tough call. Go to the store and feel this thing in your hand. It's sexier in that respect.
If I get to the T Mobile store when it opens will there be a line? Do you think they'll run out of the HTC One S in a day? Should I order it online instead?
I got a chance to play with a ONE S last Friday by walking into a store and asking if they had one. They had just gotten it that day and were all phone dork excited about it, like myself, so they busted it out. It was very sexy and after 5 minutes I was excited about it and left jazzed. That being said, the pentile screen irked me on the S. I have spent a little time with the GNEX in verizon store and while I like the idea of the bigger screen for Netflix I'm not so sure about the price difference. If I can snag the trade in deal I could buy the ONE S and an ensquared warranty for $50 less than a GNEX.
Uggh, first world problems!!!!!!!!!!!:p
Phil should I have Cheerios or mini wheats for breakfast. I love mini wheat but I heard Cheerios are healthier. What do you think.
Pro tip: Bring donuts.
DONUTS.
To all those wanting to root and put an AOSP ROM on their One series phone: I wonder how that image processor chip is going to do with AOSP? Is there code for it out there, available so it'll work?
I hope so!
Plan in hand. Pick up a HTC ONE S, hopefully with the $100 trade in. Test drive it for 24 hours, very carefully. Place on craigslist for $399. Decide to sell it. Order GNEX from Google Play and end up spending $150 for a GSM Galaxy Nexus, taxes and shipping.
HTC ONE S
$249.99
-$100 T-Mobile Smartphone trade in
______________
$149.99
-$50.00 mail in rebate (If the honor this with the trade in)
______________
$99.99 final out of pocket
Sell on craigslist / ebay
$399
-$99 out of pocket for HTC ONE S
______________
$300 cleared on ONE S
$434.07 according to Google Platy Checkout for Galaxy Nexus shipped and taxed to me
-$300 cleared on ONE S
______________
$134.07 final out of pocket for GSM GNEX. Sounds like a deal. Add on ensquared policy and it will still be less than the ONE S with it's qhd screen.
Just my 13407 cents worth after an evening of consideration. ;)
You can't simply compare the CPU clock speeds of the two. The One S has an S4 dual core vs the Razr's relatively older OMAP 4430, not to mention the GPU performance. The S4 is also theoretically supposed to be more power efficient.
Phil makes a valid point also about the carrier, unless you're importing a GSM unlocked Razr (if it exists).
That is correct. I saw it at a T-Mobile store today.
Do you know if the black (red accent) version will eventually be released on T-Mobile?
Edit: Ah, missed that this question was asked a page or so ago. My apologies.
PM sent.
You will get more then 100 for your phone on ebay then going through T-Mobile. ALOT more depending on the phone you have
Not all phones - I traded in a Cliq I had lying around (I wanted to keep my G2!) I checked eBay and not many people want a used Cliq. ;) The current trade-in promo was definitely the better deal on that one. :DYou will get more then 100 for your phone on ebay then going through T-Mobile. ALOT more depending on the phone you have
I traded in my old Cliq XT. Got $100 rebate which the Tmobile store took care of for me. Also a $50 manufacture rebate = my HTC One S was just $126 before upgrade fee and taxes.
I did buy a zagg full body but opted out on the tmobile cases. Just not my cup of tea plus I don't want to hide this beautiful body; the phones, not mine :P
how is your battery life?
After 5h 32m on battery, Screen on 66%, Internet 7%, cell standby 7% and wifi running 3h 43min... im at a low 35% battery left.
I had to charge my phone twice today, this a full 24 hours since I had the phone.
Oh brightness is set to auto, wifi is not at full performance, 2g/3g/4g is on auto, sync is set to a minimum with google taking up most of that.
Now at work im in a concrete building... so I UNDERSTAND the battery drain, especially on 4g but at home on wifi i expected to see the battery last a lot longer. I am literally watching the batter icon count down... kinda like your first v8 car's gas gauge when going 55mph on the hwy.
I've gotten 3.5 hours + of screen on time with 14 hours + before charging, so you have a problem. Check tmobiles support site for an article about the WiFi calling feature draining the battery quicker than it should. If it isn't that then maybe your handset is defective.

Thanks for the reply. I always assumed that the wifi enabled combined with wifi calling would decrease the battery drain compared to a tower calling because the signal is stronger, thus the receiver on the phone does not have to work as hard/boost the antenna strength.
I'll look around on tmobiles site, but as of last night there was very little in the way of the HTC One S battery issues. Most of it was with the myTouch3g short batter life when tmobile switched to the new signal type.
I've used this since the 25th, but I haven't noticed a problem. They say there is a fix coming though. Maybe they are saying that wifi calling feature, while actually on a call, causes more drain than necessary.
Support: Wi-Fi Calling drains the battery power: HTC One S
Oh, when wifi calling is enabled as "preferred", it automatically disables the phone's wireless radio so you'd think this would actually reduce battery usage since the radio for 802.11b/g/n is a lot lower power than your 2/3/4g radio.
could be the case. thanks for passing on the info. I too have had my One s since the 25th (that evening. I was the first person to buy it at the local tmobile store. The sad part was, it was around 4pm when i bought it.
Yeah, I haven't seen any One S commercials by T-Mobile yet. I have seen some with the new Girl rework though. Something has to drive people into the T-Mobile store, and it looks like they have to rely on word of mouth and people seeing the One S in someone's hand. Advertising doesn't come cheap, so I'll be enjoying this 4G network while everyone at AT&T and Verizon fight for their LTE bandwidth and outages. I moved from Verizon to T-Mobile, and I'm happy so far.
OK next question: How do you get a screen shot? I read that it was a default function with ICS. Did Sense 4.0 do away with it?
HTC has been adding a screenshot feature to their recent phones. On my Rezound, you hold down the power button while pressing the Home capacitive button. I believe the One S should work the same way. Stock ICS does it differently.
One S / Sense 4 question: Anybody use any of the 1x1 HTC toggle widgets? I'm wondering if the WiFi widget toggles on/off or takes you to the settings menu. Thanks.
The battery life on this phone is great. Way better than my amaze, gs2 or any other smartphone that ive owned.
My settings are...
Screen brightness @ 25%
Auto sync is on to sync 2 g mail accounts & weather.
I usually use my WiFi @ home but around town I'm on 4g when needed, if not its always off.
This phone is blazing fast. Beats any current phone out at the moment.
Confirmed that the1x1 turns WiFi on and off.WiFi widget toggles on/off or takes you to the settings menu.

Is there any way to turn off the Sense lock-screen? I only want one lock-screen to get into the phone from sleep, the face-unlock or pattern, but now you have to get past the Sense lock before the Android lock-screen comes up.
I don't believe there is.
Ok I have kind of an odd question. Can you trim down a regular size sim card to work in a htc one s? I sometimes like to swap my sim card out to use in older phones I have. I want to have the option to use my sim on more than 1 phone.. Thanks for any info ...........
For some reason I can't get this phone to my pc via the provided usb cable. I got the latest HTC Sync program. Updated the usb drivers on my laptop. I open up HTC Sync and it says "No Device Detected" Anyone else with this problem?
Maybe you need to mount the storage on the phone via USB? Pull down the notification on the phone and follow the instructions. Just a guess, never used the software."No Device Detected" Anyone else with this problem?

On my old Vibrant with Froyo thats what it did. Now there is nothing showing up in the notification bar. Funny thing is the phone does charge via usb.
the provided usb cable is really skinny and therefor your computer may not be able to send enough current to your phone so they can talk to each other... electronics.
I'm actually using my old motorola defy usb cable to charge me phone. Charges much quicker (just wish I didnt have a batter drain issue).
Do you have this problem too, or is it rare.

"rattling as if the earpiece speaker was blown out"
"My problem is vibration, as if there is a wire vibrating at high frequency during certain words."
Really? I think this person's ear is overly sensitive, so your mileage will vary. Go give the demo a shot at your local T-Mobile to see how it works with your ear.
Have you looked into WidgetLocker? It's a great lock screen replacement app. No root required. I used it on my Incredible.
I believe it had an option to have no lock screen. Don't know if that's compatible with the face unlock feature, buy might be worth researching

How do you set up emails to be able to click on the HTML link as opposed to having to try and copy and paste in yahoo or something please help this someone coming from iPhone where in an email there's a blue hyperlink u click on and takes u right there
What email are you using? and are you using an intergrated email app? or the browser?
The phone should do the same thing with a hyperlink. If it doesnt.... its the app you are using, and they will need to fix it. (the browser should fix that)
I get no service at my residence, hence I have to connect via WiFi. Other than the WiFi dropping the calls all the time or not connecting at all in certain areas, the problem is this. When someone calls in, there is a terrible echo on they're end. I have to call them back, and after I do, the echo is gone. Why and can this be fixed?
The Slacker radio app is really buggy for me on this phone compared to my others. When it does open it will sit and say tuning forever or get stuck loading. And when it plays it takes longer breaks between songs or doesn't start and have to skip. Yesterday it played the same 2 songs back to back 6 times in a row before I had to skip to another. This happened right out of the box both before and after updating the app.

Almost certain it's an HTC software issue. The "workaround" is to use a headset. Caller's echo will stop the moment you plug it in.
BTW, on WiFi, do you also have the problem that incoming calls don't ring if the phone is in sleep mode? If you do, the workaround for that is to never let the phone sleep. Settings>Display>Sleep>Never turn off. And never let the screen go dark, so use the black background on your homescreen to save battery.
i turned on the talk back thing in the setting and i locked the screen and it doesnt let me unlock it !!!! i try pulling the ring or try pulling down the notification bar and NO it doesnt let me unlock or anything. I already restarted it and its the same thing !!!! What can i do ??????? help me please i have the htc one s
