Holding finger on the screen, or tapping it?

I can't seem to get a consistent response from the screen, hence this question...

If for example I've typed some text in an application, for example, Twitter, or Google+, email, etc. and now want to copy the text. Do I:

1. Hold my finger on the screen to get the prompt\box to Select All \ Copy
2. Press once on the screen to get the prompt\box to Select All \ Copy
3. Double press on the screen to get the prompt\box to Select All \ Copy

On my Galaxy Nexus, it is a hold. Unless Sense altered that in some way, I believe it should be that.

The app also has to support it. Gtalk doesn't, which is a fail.

Now I don't feel like I'm losing my mind. Sometimes the long press just doesn't work, and you've confirmed that GTalk doesn't work, and I think in Twitter it is temperamental.

Sometimes, when I go even try to edit a word, I tap or even long press on the screen, and nothing happens. Most annoying.

If you use Tweetdeck you can copy a whole tweet in the app without having to long press. I prefer that app anyways though, but I don't find myself copying many tweets.

In my experience on the One X it is a tap to select text to edit but yes if the app does not support it then you will get wild results or no results.
