check your updates, it's there - report back on fixes, downloading now
Thanks for the heads-up! Hopefully it fixes a majority of the software issues.
I'm still waiting for mine :(
Is this the AT&T model you are talking about?
Sorry - yes AT&T
AT&T 1.85 update, yes. Same build as the leak.

Ugh!!! I checked last night and nothing was available, now it says I have to wait another 13 hours... Man that is stupid, wish I could disable that...
Manually change the date 1 day ahead and try again.
Mine popped up a notification that was an update available. And I checked last night as well. My timer still says that I have to wait 7 hours. Says I have to be connected to wifi or computer to update.

Mine downloaded the update but shows it verifying the software for a long time. Any one else have this problem?
hahaha... So after trying this twice it still shows no update available and when I reset the time back it then says you can't check again for 47 hours and 59 min...
Oh well, I'll wait a couple days. Not a big deal for me but others might want to think twice about trying to spoof the clock...
I've got the pop up box telling me to install the update but i delayed it to remind in 4 hours. Not sure if this going to break my "root" so i am going to wait for a bit till i confirm. Anyone out there did the update and lost their root? Thanks.
Mine has been doding this for the last 10 minutes now.

Mine too.
ive tried restarts, taking wifi off, shut downs. it just wont proceed
Hopefully it works for everybody, i did my update at work when it finished i had to update some of my apps. I havent tried it out yet especially the wi-fi issue.
10 minutes is not that long as long as the progress indications show that it is working. 30 minutes with nothing but a swirly means your download was corrupt and you have to delete it with a file manager and redownload.

I got the notification that there was an update. Hit Ok. Nothing happened. Go into Setting and hit check for updates and it won't even check, doesn't do a thing

My phone got its update 2 hrs ago and it went fine. It took just about 5-10 minutes! :)
Check Downloads app, and you will find System Update 64.59MB. Not sure what to do with It!
If selected, it displays a bunch of files.
It took a little bit of "coaxing" but I got it to download. I'm installing it now.
It rebooted the phone twice. (Which is more reboots than I've given the phone since I bought it). It then gave an "Android is upgrading... " message where it said it was optimizing applications then it gave me the "desktop." Total time ~ 5 minutes.
I noticed Wi-Fi before was a bit up and down. It seems to be solidly on now. I didn't notice the problems that others had (beyond the Wi-Fi issue) so I hope this eliminates them before I noticed them.
I am having problems with getting the update to install. In the notification area, it says "System Update Download Complete." When I press that, it says "Download Successful" and shows 100% 64.55MB / 64.55MB. Then I press OK but nothing happens. I tried restarting the phone, but that did not help. Also tried deleting the file (in the Downloads folder), and now even pressing "Check for Update" does nothing.
Hi All,
I need help. I got a message to update. Tried it but something went wrong. Nothing downloaded but now when I reboot it get an error message about HTCdm stopped working, When I click on check updates nothing happens. Please advise.
Thanks!
my HOX was processing the swirly for over 30 minutes. no progress bar, restarts, or anything to indicate it was processing the update
i checked and it said my software was up to date.. ill try and change the date and do it again
this will break root right?
yes, if you're rooted I would not do the OTA update.
New OTA Update! - xda-developers
Yep, same here. Tried a couple reboots to see if it would force an update but nothing. The check for updates button no longer does anything...
EDIT: Deleted the download, set the date forward, checked for updates again and now it is doing the update....
I get the same error message. Does anyone have an idea what the issue is?
Same error, anyone????
I ended up deleting the download after it was verifying for an hour. Set the date ahead and checked again. Updated successfully the 2ND time.

i reset the date and got it...
i did the update and now my phone is slower on quadrant scores and i still have signal drop issues.. awesome
Well since it breaks root anyway, it looks like I will be holding off on this. Besides I haven't had too many wifi issues.
resetting time forward doesnt work. it just resets after a few seconds and i have auto turned off
why cant we just download it somepalce
Why are people using quadrant to verify the speed? I thought quadrant scores were utterly useless as they don't indicate the true real life usage of the device?
I just finished updating to 1.85, and here are the things that I have noticed so far:
-multitasking seems to be better. I am now able to switch between 3 apps without the refresh problem. However, having more than 3 apps running still has the refresh issue.
-snappier operation on menus, and faster app load times.
-battery life seems to be the same. Although I have only been on this for a couple of hours so things might change.
-quadrant score DECREASED from 4900-5100 to 4300-4500. I have already called HTC about the issue, and they said that they have no explanation for said slowdown. Note: Quadrants scores doesn't necessarily reflect real time performance, but the numbers speak for themselves.
UPDATE AT YOUR OWN RISK..
Background info pre-update: My phone was running on stock 1.73, and wasn't tampered in any way. Phone ran smooth, and benchmark scores back this up. The battery life was decent to bad with 3-5 hrs screen on time average with moderate use.
This sucks.. I downloaded the updated (after updating the date in my phone) it got stuck checking the files so I deleted it and restarted my phone and now I the check for updates button doesn't do anything. Anyone has any advise?
Pardon me, but as someone contemplating getting a HOX, this sounds like a bit of a nightmare..
This coupled with Apple's new shot over the bow, lack of availability and other issues make me think twice about HTC's devices..
Oh well.. that's the way the Apple bites! LOL
I've got the update downloaded but it hasn't installed yet. I had to manually set the date for the 8th

Same here. No problems updating.
My phone worked fine before but I recently had a weird wifi issue then battery drain...all solved w/ a restart. I dl the update and all seems ok but only time will tell
I figured out my problem. I set the date to the 10th and it downloaded and installed in 5 min total.
I was informed I had an update, got home and tried to do it only to be told HTCdm has unfortunately stopped. Now it says installation interrupted: Your software is up to date, please try again in 24 hours.
Bang up job there HTC. :p I don't even think I'll try again, my signal issue are minor to begin with anyway.
I am not having the same performance. My apps still refresh with only two apps opened :(
I have had the update on for a few hours and have to say it makes the phone an even better phone (and I definitely thought it was the best phone I've ever had).
The Wi-Fi issue is gone (although it never bothered me before).
Multitasking, as people mentioned, works better. I haven't tried listening to music long-term yet.
The phone responds as fast as it did before (if not faster - mind you, I hadn't rebooted it in some time). I don't do Quadrant scores because... (do I even have to repeat this line?).
Great update HTC! I'm glad they addressed the issues quickly.
Got the notification at work today, delayed it for 4 hours, then the HTCdm error popped up. Rebooted a couple of times, checked for the update again, and now apparently my software is up to date, despite still being 1.73.
Well done, HTC!
i got the pop up message @ work and it wouldn't DL until i used my wifi @ home... so far so good... i left it on wifi steaming pandora hasn't lost signal in 1hour....
Me too and so far wifi is all bars... Solid

Mess w/ the clock and set the time forward another day and try again. I had mine say the same thing but after adjusting the clock it worked.
No success here yet. I'm stock rooted, but don't really care about losing root for now, just had it to remove a few things and add in some of the apps AT&T left out.
I've been waiting for the OTA rather than try flashing the leak, because I don't want to mess with wiping my phone right now. When I first read about the OTA being available a few hours ago, I tried to update, got the message the update was available and to be on Wi-Fi and stuff. Clicked ok and it starts to try and download, but then I get some message about the servers being busy and try again later.
After waiting about 30 mins, I did the date change and tried again, got the message the update was available and to download on Wi-Fi, clicked ok, and again got a server busy message. Since I first read about the OTA being available, I've tried and then waited a little bit of time I think 4 times now, and everytime I get a server busy message.
Had pretty much a conglomeration of all of the above problems, I had the same Htcdcm stop working message a few times, tried a couple times and then it said my software was up to date. Then I checked availability and said software could not be checked for 24 hours. I advanced date one day (you have to turn off auto date time, I know this seems obvious but might be overlooked with excitement of OS update) and now it found update and is uploading and restarting. I have found this to be an amazing fast phone and its definitely the best I have ever had, and I have had them all. I expect it to be even better after update, just my 2 cents
I wouldn't let it discourage you, I have owned the last 3 iterations of the iPhone, its an amazing device with lots going for it, but it doesn't equal the speed and power of the hardware inside the One X
Finally managed to trick the update. Still a little peeved I have to mess with the phone to get an update, but I had the same issue with my old Windows Phone.
A few things:
Signal is holding at 4/5 bars. It seems to drop down to 1 for a split second but all in all it's much better now.
WiFi has always held steady when I am at home, but at my job (which is an official AT&T WiFi hot spot) it never connects or has issues holding the connection. My Acer tablet with ICS has the same issue so I think it's just an Android thing. Hopefully this update fixes it, but I’m inclined to think it’s not fully a HTC issue.
Everything seems much more smoother. The phone was always fast, but now it fly’s. I pretty much see every transition animation now.
Everything updates much better. I would never get notifications about e-mail or play store updates unless I went into the apps and checked. The second this rebooted I was flooded with updates and it seems to be notifying me about new e-mail. The Sense weather widget would almost always display unable to load current weather or whatever unless I went into it and made it update, now it does it on it's own.
No major changed it seems, just much more fluid and the behind the scenes stuff. No idea how it effects battery life, but the update process seemed to gobble up a good chunk of battery life updating so I’m crossing my fingers it stays as good as it has been.
I got the HTCdm stop error as well. I had to delete the download file and change the date before it worked properly. Then it did the update properly. A little disappointed I had to do this but happy with the update.
Where are you all deleting the download file? I checked downloads, and a bunch of the system folders, and I don't see anything that looks like an update file. I got the notice this evening, and then nothing happened. Clicking on the ATT Software Update button doesn't even give me the message that I have to wait for 24 hours to check again. I also go the HTCdm stop error a little while after I got the initial notification. Nothing ever looked like it was downloading or updating. Just a whole lot of nothing. I am still on the stock Software Version (1.73...) ~I also tried the date advance repeatedly, with a bunch of reboots in between.
My set never really had too many issues, just frequent and short-lived drops of wi fi, which affected apps that needed constant connection.
Notification and downloaded the update a few hours ago without an issue.
2 things that I can confidently report (at least for me) is that my WiFi signal is now holding without dropping and I now have a full WiFi signal in my house vs. previously running at 1 or 2 bars.
Well, rebooted again, set the clock forward, and actually got the update painlessly. Took just a few minutes to do from download to last reboot.
Wifi is definitely improved; whereas before I could lower the phone behind the sofa and lose signal, now it stays connected with 2-3 bars. I haven't messed with anything else, so we'll see if I notice any performance changes. Even if it just fixes the wifi I'll be happy.
I just hope this resolves the WIFI issues...
I'm new to at& t so forgive me if this is a dumb question. When I go to att updates and click check for updates nothing happens. I mean absolutely nothing happens. Any help would be appreciated.

You don't go to at& t, you go to settings, about phone, check for updates.

He's referring to how updates are now under a menu option called "att software updates".

My wifi is still randomly dropping and then reconnecting, so no fix for me and I had high hopes for this update...
Ignore post.

I need some help. Got the download accomplished, but got the endless spinning wheel and no re-starts. So while I am told "System Update Complete" I still have 1.73 showing.
So, it seems i need to delete the download and try again. Opened it in Astro but dont know exactly which files to delete.
If anybody knows, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
You opened the zip file with your file manager. Don't do that.
Back out of the zip to the directory above.
Then Delete the entire zip.

After reading this on AC, I went to Settings -> AT&T software update -> check for updates. Less than 5 minutes later, and one restart (which it did automatically) I have the 1.85. Pretty painless.
Immediately I got notification of a voicemail received 8 hours ago, which has happened to me in the past with Sprint as well as in the last month with AT&T.
I did have the issue of the mobile network turning itself off, so I hope this resolves it.
I haven't noticed anything too different after updating. Multitasking isn't any better but I'm sure they'll eventually fix that.
I would like to see them fix that stutter when you first open the app drawer though. It looks so silly how hard it stutters lol.

The update was quick and easy for me. I wasn't experiencing any wifi or reception dropout prior to the update, so I can't tell the rest of you who are that its fixed, what I can say is there is no difference than how it was working before the update. No more smoother nor does the multitasking work any different. And it's been said by HTC the multitasking is working as it should.

Updated mine today using my home wifi. No problems at all, went off without a hitch and notice no increase nor decrease in performance as of yet. I never really had any wifi issues anyway.
Went smooth. Only issue is that speaker volume is diminished. Ringtones, music, and media loudness is significantly lessened at full volume.

I still cannot get the update. Tried wifi, hooking up to computer, changed date several times. I click on check for updates and nothing happens.
Any ideas?

...maybe try a reboot, and see what happens.
Thanks. Tried that several times too and nothing.

Manually change the date to 2 or 3 days ahead and then re-try. I had the same problem and it worked after I did that. The whole thing took 5 min.
Same here. 6/8 was my magic number.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
thanks. I changed it 2 days, 5 days, 10 days, 20 days, and a month ahead. All after reboots and still no luck.
I also keep getting htcDm has stopped.
Mine is not available yet :'( On another note could someone help me figure out how to search on this phone? I'm puzzled without the search button. thx
Use the google search bar. It can search your phone
There is also a Google Search icon in your apps in you don't want to add it to your screens.
I just bought a white one, with the Otterbox case.
AT&T opened the box in front of me (they never use to do this; the box use to be opened prior), and the device already had the latest update on it. Hmm, interesting...
I have gotten the UPDATE popup twice...and both times selecting it has done NOTHING. Sigh. All I want is my Slacker Radio to play flawlessly while navigating and even with an update I fear it won't.
I still have the problem with WiFi thinking it's still connected to the AP even though I've left the area. Very annoying. I had hopes that this will get fixed with this update.
Anybody still seeing this issue with 1.85 too?
Does the AT&T version have Auto Disconnect in wifi advanced settings?
If so, have you tried turning it on?
Sent from my HOX
No, it doesn't. It just have the what to do in sleep mode.
Got that yesterday. Been pushing update button all day and nothing happens. No failure message even.

Stuck at verifying package. I have tried to update several times. Longest stuck at this was over an hour. Deleted update and download again. Same thing. I've never had this much issue with updates before

Twice I received msg that download was "corrupted". Deleted file.It let me re-download, but nothing happening - no reboots, swirlies, anything to suggest action. Software still shows 1.73.Third time, download did not show up, and it will not let me download again. Will try again tomorrow.
Has anybody noticed any improvement in signal drop issues? I swapped out a new sim and a new phone the other day, hoping it would fix signal drop issues but it does not appear to have done so. The hardware is shipped with the new software.
The signal drop issue I am referring to is when the 4g and reception bars still show connectivity, but calls/texts are not received, data is not working, and in settings, the mobile network actually shows "disconnected" or "turning on."
this happened to me as well.
i made sure to do a restart by holding the power button after clearing the download and also made sure that wifi was disabled before restart. worked like a charm the second time
I also get the unfortunately, HtcDm has stopped. if this keeps it up i will cashout on this badboy and get the galaxy s3 the one thing i hate is an update to fix crap and your phone can't pull it down due to the system itself.....
Whats up with this crap I have tried for two days and get this. One more day and this bad boy will be on eBay any else getting this.

still not working for me.
Ok yesterday I was pushing update to no avail. I finally got it to update. Not sure why it finally worked as I had tried all of the same steps as before. I put the phone on wifi, unclicked network time, rolled the date to the next day plus a few minutes. Voila update appeared and downloaded. Took about 8 minutes after the download completed.

For those that have Root and don't want to lose it. Do this download Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper. Launch app and save root access. Now do the OTA upgrade. Once installed open Voodoo and get root access back. I have tested and verified that root access is kept and that all apps work.
just chill, it will update, took me 3 tries over 2 days, but it insdtalled with zero input from me other than installing new drivers and plugging in to my puter at work, it went flawlessly and told me the update was successfull
Based on what I read in the AC forums, I advanced date (I ended up in September because I did not notice that date wheels are day/month/year) downloaded, nothing, deleted, advanced date a bit, and got the download to work the second time. EDITORIAL: the average consumer does not read AC, and could be frustrated by the process. It really should not take a village to do a simple OTA software update. AT&T and/ or HTC need to work on the delivery mechanism. Having said that, glad to finally have the fix for this instrument, which I bought for its superior form factor and screen. There were initial problems with the GNex, and I understand the folks on Big Red just got the version 4.04 to fix those problems. I am sure the SGIII will have some initial problems as well. It is the nature of bringing out new devices to have some glitches. However, it is just important to think about the delivery of the fix as well as the fix itself.
AT&T sends the update in batches instead of all at once, if they did it all at one time it would overload the servers. They have always and will always do this. Most updates take 2+ weeks to reach all phones depending on how many phones are scheduled to be updated. It is not just HTC phones it is all phones on AT&T's network and all the carriers do a similar type of update process. It will come be patient. The selection for update schedules could be by date of purchase or by serial number esin or account number who knows.
